home spent the weekend with her mother in toronto plan to attend the street dance and fair to be held in claremont on friday june 23rd sponsored by the canadian legion claremont a ross irwin chairman of the high school board announced on wednesday the appointment of mr e h demersma music bach principal of the pickering township high school for the coming fall term mr and mrs j boe and daugh ters andra and shirley miss joan atkinson and mrs v stephens of toronto and miss leola beare of mckeesport pa spent sunday visiting with mr and mrs e beare and megan mr and mrs earle beare attended a silver wedding anni versary last saturday at nesleton miss megan beare was present also and assisted with the serving the united church anniversary services will be held next sunday at 11 am and 730 pm the rev a e armstrong of toronto will be the guest speaker special music ty the choir every member and adherent of the church should be present visitors made welcome oh come and let us worship and bow down before the lord our maker together the womens institute meetin was held last thursday afternoon at the home of mrs w evans with about forty members present- the roll call was a new housekeepin idea master dean evans sang a solo mrs m johnson reported on the recent district annual held at port perry and mr irwin gave an interesting talk on banking the lunch committee served lunch at the close there will be no meeting in july but a picnic will be held in august at the home of mrs ken ward the sunday school annual picnic will be held at lynbrools park on wednesday june 2sth buses will leave the united church grounds at 130 pm children of the school travelling free it is hoped the adults and parents will attend going by bus thus helping to defray this expense by paying the modest fee asked everyone please bring provisions for the picnic supper mr w evans mr mcconnell and mr e cooke will have charge of the sports and a baseball game is expected let us all help in making this a big enjoy able affair the regular monthly meeting of the ladies auxiliary of the can adian legion was held at the home of mrs e j taylor on wednesday evening june 11th with 23 mem bers present a business discussion took up the greater part of the meeting reports were heard from the committees in charge of the euchre lield friday june 2nd for the manitoba flood relief fund and the booth to be operated by the auxiliary the evening of the street dance friday june 23rd a social hour concluded the meeting the baptist mission circle will be held on tuesday june 27th at the home of mrs davison mrs burnells group will be in charge of the program the topic being on family responsibility all mem bers are expected to be present the claremont baptist sunday school meeting for teachers and officers was held last week mr p wellman was in the chair mr davison is attending the conven tion in montreal so the opening prayer was offered by air well- man the date of the picnic decid ed on is saturday julv 15 at mr robert ratcliffs park mr davi son and mr and mrs binstead will be in charge of the sports and prizes so we can expect lots of fun as previously we shall charter the bus but those having cars are asked to bring them as this years attendance promises to be much larger brougham mrs john wilson spent sunday with mrs a hamilton mrs v wright of georgetown visited with her fcvpher mr bert beer during the weekend mrs w milne of toronto spent the weekend with her brother mr g e holtby mr and mrs d ford visited with her father mr g e holtby on sunday miss eleanor beer of toronto spent a few days last week with her father d a beer mr and mrs c h todd of tor onto visited the latters aunt mrs george philip on sunday last mrs h shea of toronto spent hg mclntyre passes suddenly in toronto the death occurred suddenly in toronto on monday june 19th of h gordon mclntyre of claremont although his business had taken him away from the village in recent years mr mclntyre was a resident here for some time during which he operated the plant near his home later sold to the philips glass co his wife who survives him was the former isabel brown and she continues of entertaining members of the well known baptists young peoples choral society there will be a double quartette tenor soloist and organist they will provide the music at both morning and evening services and we can anticipate a real musical feast it will be an outstanding sunday in that apart from the splendid music mr davison will hold a service of dedication for infants in the morning anybody interested in bringing their young ones for dedication to our lords service will please commuicate with mr davison before june 25th the claremont baptist church is to be favoured with a visit from the wellknown plooardaires of toronto at both morning and even ing services on sunday june 25th the members of this group took part in the recent presentation of the triumph of our lord which was presented by the toronto baptist choral society to capacity audiences in toronto a guest tenor soloist will accompany the group at morning worship there will also be a service of dedication of young and garry of hampton visited with mr and mrs howard malcolm and other friends on sunday a strawberry social sponsored by st johns church will be held on friday evening july 7 a drama his women folk sponsor ed by the buttonville wl will be presented mr and mrs r j ford and daughters of highland creek mr and mrs harvey barrett mrs adaire and mr r fuller of pick ering called on mr and mrs wm ellicott during the weekend mr g seebeck of markham spent sunday with his mother and sister mrs d seebeck and ethel mr and mrs e l crocker mrs r w witter and miss gladys witter of toronto spent sunday with mrs l matthews and mrs a b matthews decoration and memorial service was held here on sunday after noon a short service was held on the grounds followed by service in the church the speaker was rev h lackey whose theme was the message of life miss lillian roberts and mrs mclellan sang solos and were accompanied by mr nicholson of whitby the joy rebecca lodge no 355 met in the township hall on mon day evening with two car loads of visiting ladies from pickering lodge on tuesday evening a bus load of ladies from joy rebecca went to toronto to visit lorraine lodge no 195 which met in the royal york hotel a very enjoyable evening was held in the township hall on thursday evening june 15 when the wa and wms of st johns church sponsored a supper to commemorate 25 years of union invitation had been sent to differ ent ministers who had served the congregation since union rev mr gardiner and rev mr ferguson both did much to mould the think ing of this congregation the late rev a mclellan had already done his part to unite the presbyterians and methodist of claremont at his passing this charge was taken over by rev j glover and rev i e kennedy followed by rev h lackey who is proving a fine successor to these- worthy pastors after a bountiful supper had been partaken by all a short program was enjoyed this consisted of music by the old time choir accom- more than thousand persons covered by ontario county medical coop the second annual meeting of the ontario county cooperative medical services was held in the township hall sunderland on tuesday with a small but repre sentative group in attendance the secretary mrs mclean in her report stated that since the first annual meeting the membership has increased from 160 members covering 170 persons to 113 mem bers covering 10s1 persons this year 17 claims were paid totalling i285197 or 031 of our earned premiums the average stay in hospital is 10 days mr harper newman introduced the guest speaker of the evening and gave a brief outline of his accomplishments stating that at the age of 28 he is the secretary and general manager of cumba which is the largest of the 41 medical cooperatives in ontario with over the womens institute met for the june meeting in the township hall mrs l johnston was in the chair and the minutes were read and approved by mrs burton secretary a discussion took place on the picnic at brooklin to cele brate the 50th anniversary of the womens institute of south ontario district on june 24th a report was read by mrs l john ston of the district annual meet ing of the wi held at port perry the names and addresses of the new officers were given by mrs m e ellicott district director brougham this year has one of her past presidents mrs r birrill as district president the community club report was excellent and those wtio held office are to be congratulated on their very good work in helping to make the dances a success throughout the winter there was a discussion on painting the cupboards these were put in the hall tbis past year by the wi mrs m burk gave a very interesting paper on current events mrs j mitchell read a poem entitled bake a cake the july meeting on tuesday july 11th will be held in the form of a picnic at greenwood park roll call a prominent canadian woman it was a great pleasure to have three new members enroll at this meeting hostesses were mrs n burton mrs gladys bar clay mrs j mitchell mrs matt hews mt albert fire protection for uxbridge township witli the exception of scott union no 4 council also agreed to enter into agreement with the uxbridge town fire brigade for fire protec tion in all remaining parts of the township road accounts passed for pay ment amounted to 161500 and general accounts 57900 the date for the next council meeting was set for july 10th at the regular meeting of uxbridge township council last week a deputation of ratepayers from the northwest corner of the township interviewed the council on the matter of fire protection the deputation was accompanied by officials of the mt albert fire company and an agreement was made which will give fire protec tion to a small area in that section of the township a bylaw was introduced and given its several readings which when approved by the minister of education will set apart 12 public can get something from the canadians spent more than seven and a half
