been the largest producer through the year of of honey in the dominion canada passed away at his home 2i miles north of markham village on friday june 10th since suffering a stroke two years ago mr byer had been confined to bed his left side paralysed and a week before his death he had hemorrhage the deceased was born 77 years ago on june sth the son of peter and mary jane byer not far from the site of his late home all bis life was spent in the immediate district he was a faithful worker in the wideman mennonite church and for years he was a teacher in the sunday school as a young man be worked with his father on the farm and helped care for their bees some 57 years ago he married emma haacke who survives him and who has been his devoted nurse for the past two years mrs byer is a sister of mrs d j williamson of stouff- ville also surviving are 1 sons edwin a and walter g and the twins lloyd and lome and three daugh ters mary mrs harmon jones annie mrs russell grove and grace mrs carson wideman as well as 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren a brother alexander p byer of winnipeg came here for a visit recently and a sister mrs mary cober of mark ham rr and another brother nelson byer of stouffville are also left to mourn his loss as is a sur viving halfbrother walter byer of the late mr byer pioneered in commercial bee keeping on a vast scale mr byer was at one time president of the ontario beekeepers association and has been one of the two sui viving charter members of that organization mr byer was a man of quiet speech devoted to the local church and home but he was also distinguished man wellknown throughout canada and the united states and having business relations in many countries his picture and his articles appeared through the years in the bee journal and other magazines for beekeepers and were authoritative as well as interesting he knew as no other canadian did the problems attending commercial production of honey in this country because be pioneered in this field where others produced a few pounds he produced car loads the novice could learn more about foul brood in a few minutes spent with mr byer than he could from studying books or taking short courses out of what had been a sideline or a hobby j l byer built a modern scientific business the funeral was conducted from the home on the sth concession of markham township on monday june 20th by rev aaron grove assisted by rev mr schmucker of markham interment was made in the wideman mennonite ceme- terv pallbearers were ed and art byer merlin grove allan jones leonard hoover and carl reesor mrs fred cook of vineland expires while at supper mrs fred cook of vineland whose maiden name was emma cayman collapsed and expired suddenly while at supper in her home in vineland on monday june 19th mrs cook was born in dunn twp near dunnville in 18ss and had lived in vineland for 40 years prior to her death she was identified with the united mission ary church in vineland where her husband is a merchant besides her husband one son survives george cook of vineland and two daughters mrs thomas bell dorothy of vineland and mrs alvin shuert margaret of hamilton few weeks numbering in all 365000 plants this is an increase in production over last year of 15000 and 05000 more than the year before mr brillingers production was grad ually stepped up to meet the
