jim took his bride thirtynine years ago and there they remained until 1940 when they retired in claremont after many years of successful farming we understand mr tin dall will have a tenant on the farm and will also find it valuable for his trucking business in live stock it is a great grazing property local brother and sister both 50 years married something unique in double wedding reeve westney being opposed up to tuesday this week present chief irvine had not handed in his resignation the special police committee and its report are the culmination of dissatisfaction which has been expressed concerning chief irvine both around the council table at nomination meetings and among pickering township residents members of the investigating com mittee are councillor fred zinkie chairman reeve westney inspec tor albert johns retired police official major e m smith and w c murkar justice of the peace their report made minor charges of inefficiency and neglect of duty constable fred white also came in for certain criticism reeve westney said that chief irvine was given an opportunity to address council in reply to the charges usual procedure when such charges are made is the immediate suspension of the officer until the matter is settled other recommendations of the special committee of council in cluded establishment of a police committee to deal with all police affairs fuller cooperation and more exhaustive reports uponi police work car mileage etc conj sideration of revision of police taxi ing costs because for over a year the portion of the township north j of the third concession is under provincial iwlice jurisdiction but the residents have continued to pay for township policing on their general tax rate chief allegations made by the special committee is that the two- man police force has refused from time to time to investigate calls which they believed were of a minor nature most of all the police work in the township comes from the southwest area which is heavily populated in the rouge river area as is usual in police work a great many calls come in from persons worried by stray dogs cats annoyed by neighbors and so forth chief irvines resid ence is on the brock road north of xo 2 highway chief irvine has been in charge of pickering township policing for about 10 years for some time he was looking after the entire town ship singlehanded and on 24hour duty until it became imperative for the council to give him a con stable about one year ago the ontario provincial police took over duties north of the third conces sion but this still left the township force with heavy duties most of the present council agree that the force is understaffed last year the proposition of having provincial police assume the entire township was thorough ly discussed by township council but this was ruled out chiefly be cause council felt the cost would be prohibitive brougham of mrs m harlock the president mrs f cassie was in the chair a farm show
