london vicinity on sunday last mr and mrs secord who have been living in the corrie cottage are moving to the city he is a student in the university mrs churchyard spent saturday in toronto some of our farmers attended the meeting of the federation of agriculture at brougham on tues day last this organization is the main one for all the farmers of canada to get together and make their needs known there seems a disposition on the part of some interested parties to force down the price of milk many of our dairymen who have been buying hay and other feeds this winter at high prices do not take kindly to a move to lower prices now when they have a chance to get a little back from grass pastures food prices generally are often the sub ject of attack from consumers many of whom are getting larger wages than they ever did unless the producers get together to pro tect their rights just as effectively as are those people who are demanding pensions at g5 pay on holidays severance pay and all the possible other securities against want and lack of thrift food price would be given a square deal by the workers especially mr and mrs cecil jones attend- ed the funeral of her uncle sit by ray marshall the writing is on the wall it is there for all to see for the past few weeks i have been giving vou a review of the poultry situation the situation today is still unchanged and government reports just released would indicate that chick sales are even lower than i had forecast what does this mean to you the floor price was placed under eggs last january and everyone expected that the government would be stuck with a large quantity of storage eggs next fall at the time of writing it would appear that they will have no eggs on their hands nor any one else the lower egg prices have been an incentive to the house wife to use more eggs with the result that instead of huge piles of eggs going into storage they are practically all being eaten fresh what will be the egg situation next fall i do not pretend to be a prophet but it would appear to me now that with little storage eggs and a 30 decrease in chick sales a shortage will develop it was thought for a while that we could import eggs from the usa if necessary but almost every state in the union is hatching from 10 to 25 less chicks they are likely to be short also so if we import it will have to be at a high price the consumer does not like prices to fluctuate to any degree she does not like eggs to soar during the summer months but how can we overcome it i do not know as long as farmers buy heavy one year and then very light the next this condition will continue from where i sit i can foresee two types of farmers next summer and fall one will have poultry and eggs to sell and the other will not the first is going to be very satisfied and happy the other is not i believe the one who is not will find that he chose to stay out the one year that he should have stayed in we have just recently published a new book entitled the secret in out this book has been well received and a great many compliments have come our way this book can be had free of charge by dropping us a card or letter it is up to the minute on all our new enterprises and is well illustrated if anyone wonders about our faith in the future of the poultry industry i would answer it this way read our new book or just come over and visit our new one hundred thousand dollar processing plant it is my belief that the poultry industry is just begin ning to grow and that the future will see greater development than the past
