transaction with mr art brown of unionville also a mink fancier a deal was struck between mes srs shank and brown for the de livery of one of mr shanks blond minks to the unionville breeder who agreed to have the animal pick ed up by a friend in his car the transaction was completed except that when mr brown received the mink cage it was empty and the deliverer could shed no light on the valuable animals disappear ance a call was placed with mr shank who stated that he had placed the mink in the cage and it was a plain openface cage with no secret compartments or trapdoors how ever another deal was agreed on and this time the transaction went through without a hitch up to a point as the cage with the second mink was being taken from the car the cage door mysteriously opened and the animal escaped scampering across the snowy field and disappearing by this time mr shank had re ceived payment for two mink but mr brown had no little blonde animals to show the happy ending to the tale goes thus on the day that mink number one was picked up the de liverer had also picked up a bag of chicken feed this he had left in the car overnight in the morn ing when his chickens came cla morning with the thermometer registering 20 below zero and ten below when the bright sun got up and the wind dropped garage trucks were more than busy monday hauling trucks and cars about trying to get them to run on their own power again farmers reported water systems in stables freezing all of which reminds one of the average winter so different to what we have had to face this present season with the month of march just a few days away the customary comment on monday was oh well the cold cant last long now its nearly spring the snow storm that pre ceded the drop in temperatures over the weekend blocked up the front street but was quickly re moved by power shovel and trucks before it froze into solid ice as it surely would have when the snow came down it was accompan ied by spasms of rain and was just right to form ice over night had the slushy snow been left to freeze the streets would have been in bad condition for perhaps a long time vwith solid ice lining the parking areas new
