of the fish down there are too big to land because of the high lift from the bridge where the fishermen perch with their poles when transacting banking busi ness our townsman notes some thing new in banking efficiency for customers the bank has a front entrance like our canadian banks but in addition these florida banks or some of them have a side entrance where the customer may drive in and right up to the teller cage transact business and drive away without getting out of the car no doubt our new bank manager mr atkinson will make a mental note of this and pass it on to his board of directors for consideration i christian mens fellowship largely attended as i look on such a splendid gathering of men here lefore me tonight said j h hunter lld addressing the christian mens fellowship in stouffville i am reminded of something that john wesley once said which was give me one hundred men who fear nothing but god hate nothing but sin and are content to know noth ing among men but christ and him crucified and 1 will move the world gentlemen there is enough potential power in this church to night to move the world for god if we are only willing to measure up to the divine requirements here are two texts that i want to leave with you that i feel are appropriate to the beginning of a new year they are jesus christ is the same yesterday and today and forever- found in hebrews 13 8 and the other is from the book of xehemiah 2 is let us rise up and build there is a challenge in these words for you and me because jesus christ is the same and all power is given unto him let us therefore rise up and in his strength go forth and build the kingdom of god in human hearts by bringing to them the gospel message of redeeming grace it will pay you to read the dis play north when he crashed into the rear of another car driven by richard obrien 3s of detroit smooth gent takes local business man for a ride chas macdonald wellknown proprietor of the westend snack bar and billiard parlour was lit erally taken for a ride last week and in his own car it appears that one day last week a welldressed smoothtalking fellow stopped at the local establishment for lunch posing as travelling salesman he passed charlie a 20 bill which was changed the stranger then proceeded to give out with a long story of a broken down car at mole motors and repairs which had to come from oshawa and the man had no way of getting to oshawa for the parts and so on charlie obligingly drove the stranger to oshawa for which he was to receive the sum of 5 after a con siderable wait near the gm plant in oshawa the smoothtalking stranger returned and told charlie that all the money he had was the change from the 20 his travellers cheques were in his brief case in the brokendown car in stouffville and the parts he was buying amounted to over 50 obligingly again our townsman loaned the saleman 35 the salesman promptly disappeared into the gm plant and hasnt been seen or heard from since closer enquiry revealed that while he may have entered the general motors plant property he bought no parts nor was there any brokendown car waiting back at mole motors in stouffville mr hunter referred in his address on tiie importance of the bible to davids love for the word of god david committed two of the worst sins in the decalogue yet god paid such a magnificent tribute to him why it was be cause of davids wholehearted repentance of the evil he had done because of his broken heart and contrite spirit that forever sought to find expression in praise to god for his goodness and the second season is his exaltation of the word of god so if we wish to be men after the heart of almighty god let our mouth at all times be filled with praise for the divine goodness and let us exalt the divine word in our hearts and in our lives in closing his address he made a strong appeal for return to the fundamental things of our faith and pleaded for a restoration of the word of god in individual life the world was reeling upon its foundations and the hearts of multitudes were fail ing them for fear for the things that were coming upon the earth the power was ours to we enjoyed that letter by mr jacob pike in a recent issue writes mr duncan m heise old stouffville boy now resident in toronto mr heise has good reason to remember mr pike since he was his first school teacher and he adds what a fine person he was the tribune has been read in the heise family for over 50 years his mother and father having been- subscribers even before they moved into stouffville from the townline west back in 1901 the tribune is proud of these facts and is always pleased to publish interesting information such as is supplied by mr heise we like it because we know so many readers spread all over canada are enthused when they glimpse a line from an old friend they have not even heard of perhaps in a quarter century world through faith in god jesus christ is the same yesterday and today and forever let us there fore rise and build the large monthly offerings of the fellowship are designated for the purchase of bibles for japan the following resolution was adopted by an unanimous
