fractured leg in car crash jack mckendry 5th form stouff ville high school student met with a serious accident on saturday night when driving from his home at gormley to stouffville his car turned completely around as he approached the 6th concession at the baptist church in this manner the car slid east down the grade and landed in the ditch upside down in front of the ratcliff farm jack sustained a broken leg and the car suffered heavy damage the roads were a glare of ice as every body will remember and motorists if attempting to drive at all were fairly crawling along for the most part stiffly starched uniforms and lake co descended to the large reception room for communion at 630 we were lined up in couples on third floor with our blue capes thrown back over one shoulder so the red lining could be seen the nurse on the left carried a red glowing candle while the one on the right had a carol sheet we sang carols from ward to ward throughout the hospital after this delightful experience we returned to a breakfast con sisting of bacon and eggs with the trimmings duty on the ward con tinued all morning with a break for santas entrance at noon we set up trays for the patients with turkey dinners an apple orange and candies on each after we gave these out we took turns in going to our turkey din ners in a decorated dining room and we even had crackers visiting hour was very interest ing to see the guests bring their gifts to those who were patients supper was served about 500 for the patients a buffet supper was prepared for the nurses in the large reception room although deprived of a christ mas at home we were rewarded by knowing in some way we had w r harding morley symesj made others happy and given them elgin wagg a christmas lloyd turner treasurer one of these nurses local dairyman bereaved on death of brother marvin rutledge holt died at his home on december 19 1949 he was born in east gwillimbury april 18 1876 the son of the late mr and mrs alexander rutledge on february 22 1915 he married mary ann skinner mr rutledge was a farmer and a road superintendent for 30 years he attended the free methodist church and was a mem ber of the masons ioof and orange lodges surviving are sons carman bruce murray lome and aubrey and daughters etoile mrs h kennedy muriel and bernice brothers alex robert leston merton and guy and sisters
