meeting at brougham this friday this friday nov 25th is the date of the annual nomination meeting for pickering township council and though there are some rumblings of discontent here and there no change is expected in council personnel for next year reeve w h westney deputy reeve frank disney and coun cillors clare balsdon geo todd and milt burk are all expected to stand for reelection although there has been a flurry in some quarters principally claremont over the setting up of the new township high school area it is doubtful if council meets any concrete opposition from this quarter i wh dryden dies at his brooklin home while his beloved royal winter fair was setting up new records w h will dryden first presi dent and one of the founders of the big agricultural show died on friday at his maple shade farm near brooklin where he had been confined to his bed since septem ber the illness that kept mr dryden in bed also forced him to miss attending the royal for the first time last year although the strain of his illness showed on his face he showed up for the fair although he had already been forced by poor health to hand the supervision temporarily to w p watson ontario livestock com missioner who was lent to the fair by the ontario government when summer came mr dry den who was approaching 69 found his health was still not up to the strain of running the worlds largest indoor fair reluctantly he gave up the post he had since 1920 and the fair appointed c s mckee to take over mr dryden remained a director and was still active in plans for the 1919 show until his overworked heart forced him to take to his bed last september mr dryden was the fairs first president back in 1921 he held the post again in 1922 then in 192g be came general manager but mr dryden had interests other than the winter fair although it had been his pet through the years on his farm near brooklin he raised shorthorn cattle and with them he had claimed not a few awards at the royal and other shows he is survived by his wife a son john who now runs the dryden farm and two daughters mrs harry willis of brampton mrs james leamen of toronto and two sisters mrs j c sycamore of st petersburg fla and mrs w e matthews of detroit he was the only son of john dryden one time ontario minister of agricul ture fair president john w mckee recalled that when the royal was being founded it was mr drydens casting vote which broke a tie and established the fair in toronto rather than hamilton balsam atha atha extends sympathy to rela tives in the passing of mr milne mr and mrs
