mr and mrs fred draper of whitby were with mrs ed gibson and mabel recently mrs ross watson of claremont spent the weekend visiting relatives in toronto mr and mrs welsh and three children of toronto have moved into their new home in the village purchased from mr olmstead of the former creamery we extend a welcome to them and trust they shall find good friends and a place in one of the churches of the community mr john phillips who has been staying with his daughter for the summer months has gone to greenbank mr jas wilton who has not been in good health for a time is improving and able to be out around home we are glad to say mr jas mccullough is in much the same condition of health and although unable to be out is some improved overlands grocery will present some lucky person with a free mem orable evening to a close the baptist circle will meet on tuesday oct 25th at 230 oclock at the home of mrs jas coates for their regular monthly meeting the uxbridge circle members will be guests and all ladies of the local church are cordially invited a number of farmers and their wives attended the international plowing match at brantford last week the interest is intensified for this community when we learn that mr joe tran won two seconds and one third and mr m dunkeld two seconds in certain classes wliile mr w wallace won first and the silver trophy for making the shoes and shoeing the horse in 55 minutes we learned that mr wallace grew up with the horse shoeing business in scotland where his father of 70 years daily practises the art four brothers also are engaged in the business congratulations messrs wallace tran and dunkeld for the distinc tive honor you bring our commun ity- on friday evening october 21st at eight oclock the induction service of the new pastor rev mr lacey will take place in the united church to which all mem bers and adherents of claremont and brougham are expected to attend the combined boards of elders and stewards are asked to assemble in the basement prior to the time of the church meeting rev mr fisher of brooklin will have charge of the service which will be followed by lunch to which all are invited and asked to please contribute honored on his eightieth birthday we extend birthday greetings to our veteran citizen mr geo hammond who became an octogen arian on october 8th he celebrat ed this happy event with his son everett whose birthday was sun day october 9th at the family home where all the family gathered in honor of the occasion mr hammond is in good health and with mrs hammond enjoyed a trip to toronto last wednesday mr hammond came to canada thirtyeight years ago from the old country and after a few years in the peterborough district he settled with his family in clare- mont here he worked for some near locust hill mr robert wright of green river brother of mrs c devitt of brougham was hit by a ear which overturned the tractor a doctor was called and he was taken to his home suffering from shock and bruises at time of writing it is not expected any bones are broken mr kenneth madill met with a painful accident one day last week while at work his hand came too close to a saw which severed the
