mile motor trip which they commenced on july g in company with mr and mrs ed c way the two women in the party are sisters they motored as far north as whitehbrse in the yukon which 20 years ago had a population of only 300 but today is quite a sized town it is the home of the white- horse star weekly newspaper with the distinction of being published farther north than any other newspaper in the longest motor trip ever taken by a local party isaac burkholder buried at didsbury alberta a resident of western canada since 1906 isaac burkholder of didsbury alberta died on august 6 following a serious illness he was 77 years of age and was born in markham township on october 23 1872 the late mr burkholder migrat ed to western canada to take up homesteading and followed this life for 11 years and after some time in maton he located in didsbury in 1922 where he made his home until a years ago when through ill health both he and mrs burk holder were forced to give up the home mrs burkholder became a total invalid and was afflicted with blindness as well however she survives her husband prominent in the life of the united missionary church in alberta mr burkholder became travelling representative for the bible society and for 25 years covered a wide territory in this work mrs burkholder was the former ida heisey and the couple were frequently back to the home dis sedan given away as a lucky draw prize at the annual carnival and street dance of the stouffville athletic club was won on wednesday evening by mrs elsie laye of sutton west presi dent bert bell of the club officiated at the draw and was assisted by little donna ferguson daughter of mr and mrs wilfrid ferguson who pulled out the winning ticket youll never know what a thrill this really is when you havent got a car mr laye told a repre sentative of the athletic club mr laye is a driver for a local bread company and the couple with their three children were preparing to enjoy a brief holiday this week at some nearby resort now with their new car theyre off to ottawa to visit relatives they havent seen since they were married and that was over thirteen years ago the affair postponed from august 17th on account of rain nearly came to grief again on wed nesday night when rain began to fall around ten oclock however a quick decision was made to move the entire show to the veterans hall where the dance and games carried on until the wee small hours the net proceeds from the affair will be used for the promotion of sports here and for the purchase of shares in the new stouffville arena the arena will certainly be an asset to such organizations par ticularly when it is once floored since such functions as the annual carnival can be held there on the spacious ice area regardless
