macfayden of thornhill the claremont community park board is planning an entertain ment in the park on wednesday july 13th al harvey will be mas ter of ceremonies and the losth air cadet corps trumpet col bourne is chief mechanic at the chas cooper garage the couple will occupy the apartment over the cooper store during the morning service of the anniversary of the united church the atha ladies trio sang two beautiful numbers and mrs glover of elgin former choir leader sang a beautiful solo rev j e glover was the guest speaker to a large congregation the church was tastefully decorated with flowers in the evening rev davison of the baptist church led dn prayer rev i e kennedy con ducted the service and j eglover preached from the text i will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help the stouffville choir sang three very beautiful numbers which were very much appreciated particular ly so as the evening was very warm back in 1889 the pioneer metho dists of this village and community by great effort devotion and sacri fice built the ipresent church build ing and dedicated it to the glory and worship of god then in 1920 the presbyterian and methodist congregationss in claremont united and they decided to worship in the methodist church building in 1925 the united church of canada came into being and the united congregation here became a charge of the united church of canada last year the church building underwent major repairs and changes as well as redecora- tion and this year the church cele brates its diamond jubilee or 60th anniversary ten years ago following the fif tieth anniversary the present pas tor rev i e kennedy ba bd came to claremont united church as the minister he leaves on june 30th to take up the duties of the cannington pastoral charge in the lindsay presbytery and his con gregation and others who have come to know mr kennedy are extreme ly sorry to think that he is going to leave this community that he has come to know so well the change in pastorate will un doubtedly make necessary refurn ishing the manse either wholly or in part certain repairs are also needed to the houseand as all this additional the annual memorial and decor ation service of brougham ceme tery was held on sunday june 19 a short service being held on the grounds followed by service in the church which was conducted by- rev i e kennedy assisted by rev j e glover of elgin a former pastor here- music by home choir which included a vocal number by the quartette mrs j e glover also sang a solo which was very much enjoyed by all buried at st andrews cemetery markham miss georgie whitson died at the family home atha view clare mont on thursday june 16 fol lowing an illness of some duration she had enjoyed a fairly long and usoful busy life the funeral on saturday afternoon from the chapel of r g clendening markham to st andrews church and cemetery was an occasion for assembling of many old family friends who ga thered
