county four generations it wa revealed at county council meeting n toronto last iveek that school costs for stouif- ville high school are lowest in the county of york in fact are only equalled by the aurora school cost of education in this town was shown in the report as being 13e per day that means that a student attending school for the full 200 teachings days in a year cost 200 which is regarded as a fairly modest charge the cost of education in new market for instance is 2gc per day or 520 per year per pupil which is high in regard to the average cost over the county operating the high school at markham ls moder ate being 17c per day or 310 per year per pupil beginning the first of january next the markham and stouffviue costs will be pooled and spread over the newly organized markham has been awarded the degree of master of arts by teachers college columbia university dr milton c delmanzo provost announced the degree was conferred on tuesday june 1st at the 101th annual commence ment exercises of columbia uni versity the graduate is one of 1300 receiving this degree in june from teachers college which this year had students from every state and 52 foreign countries jess brown succumbs to heart ailment a resident of stouffviue for some 25 years jess brown died on thurs day may 27 in his 73rd year he had suffered a bad heart condition for a few years and recently was in the hospital for some weeks he has been about his home on stouf- fer street but was a bed patient prior to his death native of uxbridge township jess lived all his life in that municipal ity until he moved to stouffviue he was a faithful worker and wheii he was too ill for toil many towns people missed his help in their gardens mr brown married violet wagg whose father lived at gravel hill and was the oldest man in ontario and york counties at the time of bis death an only daughter mrs archie percy together with mrs brown survive the funeral on saturday after noon proceeded to
