and menus each girl exhibited tea biscuits and a record book in which their club activities had been noted in the afternoon session which was open to visitors and mothers each club gave a demonstration or day also misses doris marjorie and skit and a three minute talk on the marion and mr neil conner spent monday at richmond hill fair keeping records up to date among the many daily routine tasks that have to be done on the farm that of keeping the records of the farm business should not bo neglected says mr f k b stewart department of agricultural econo mics ontario agricultural college if not done on a daily basis entries should be made when the transaction either cash outlay or receipt is well within the memory of the operator it is always diffi cult to recall detail unless a man has an unusual aptitude for that sort of thing we are not suggesting that a farmer should have such an elabor ate system of bookkeeping that in order to handle it he must be come an accountant rather than a farmer but we do feel that it has been time well spent when at the end of the year a farmer can look over the receipts and expenditures and see just where his hard earned money has gone accounts may suggest where savings can be made in talking with men who have kept records for a number of years we find no set rule to follow some suggest a small note book and a pencil carried in the overall pock- et others a scribbler in some con- vicnt place in the kitchen or a file j whore bills are placed immediately upon their receipt keeping these records consciont- iously is primarily a matter of est ablishing the habit which once acquired soon becomes second nat ure to quote one farmer we inter viewed it is part of my daily routine and i wouldnt think of farming without keeping records this man we know follows the scribbler system at the end of each week entries are made in the regu lar farm account book which is de signed and distributed by the dept of agriculture economics oac less than three minutes a day is the time he considers spent at this and from the summary of his bus iness we know it to be a sizeable lone another man asked the question did you ever put a ten dollar hill in your pocket and at the end of three days try to recall what you have clone with it in some cases it may still be there like the fly in the scotchmans purse but in too many cases on the farm it will have been spent on sharpening a mower knife fixing a shackle on the car or replacing any number of other small items if these are not recorded it may well make one wonder why that large volume o business that meant so much hard work hasnt resulted in as impres sive a bank balance as you expected ontario agricultural college club exhibit miss florence eadie superintend ent of homemaking clubs from ttie wi branch of the dept of agricul ture of toronto was in attendance and gave the girls many helpful hints on their exhibits and demon strations congratulations are due miss
