in i and parsonage destitute places in our own land the money contributed to be equal ly divided between home and for eign missions the minutes of the first ten years are supposed to have been on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary there were eighty visi tors and 21 members it was not the privilege of all the members to attend the conven tions but excellent reports are for the sake of good clean sport for every age group in stouffville and immediate district for boys and girls that was the reason for the formation of the stouffville athletic club they have made memorial park the busiest place in town this summerthey hope to make the arena the busiest spot this winter this summer the stouffville athletic club has organized three baseball teams for boys and one soft- ball team for girls they have provided these teams with uniforms and provided the men to coach them in addition the club has assisted in bettering the baseball facilities in the park aside from baseball and softball the game of tennis has been revived members of the club have re novated the courts and spent considerable time and money in placing this corner of the park at the disposal of tennis players young and old plans are to carry this same program into the arena this winter with organized hockey teams from the bantam group up this work has hitherto been neglected to some extent its a great work to support it the organization is holding a carnival and dance in stouffville next wednesday evening august lth at which they will give away over 500 in valuable prizes including a new deluxe westinghouse refrigerator in addition they are bringing to town for a onenight stand that famous name in old time dance bands george wade and his corn huskers lost in the forsyth fire at north brought mrs and miss carrie newman con tributed 1950 out of their meagre finances through this contribu tion they were able to send 15 to both the home and foreign socie ties in october of the first year just seven months after its organ ization for several years follow ing this they sent 20 to each society the money was not raised by freewill contributions as a good deal of our money is today but the circle and the band worked toge ther in giving the mission band concert and was one of the out standing events of the year the first contribution to the work in grande ligne was made in 1889 when 750 was sent followed by a box valued at 23 in 1891 as early as 1895 the annual offering for the north american indians was taken up mrs fred farmer and mrs wm graham were the first collec tors previous to 191g the meetings were held in the school room of the church the first meeting to be held in a home was feb 2gth 1916 joshua bundy invited the circle to meet in her home but it was not until october 191s that it decided to hold regular meetings in the homes i and mrs bundy again became the first hostess the executive met first in 1919 to draft a program for the whole year knowing that not until they had a part in the work and a deep and intelligent interest in it could every woman become acquainted with every phase in the work fol lowing this the group system was adopted when every woman had a definite part in the program mrs gibbons one of the charter mem bers had the honor of being made the first life member of tne circle by mrs geo found mrs found was at one time a member i f the church following in inspiring map taik on home missions given by mrs king mrs richard ward made herself a life member in 1922 j this proved a great stimuliis tu the women in both finances and missionary education it maie it possible to make i of the members life members of either the home or foreign societies and one of these mrs gosuek is a golden jubilee mrunerand mrs augustine a diamond jubilee member one of the most outstanding meetings of each year since 1920 is the open meeting when the men of the church heln with the pro gram the board of the- church gave the society the
