johnston clerk clerk- s ballots used for first time in school vote ballots were used for the firs time under the amended public schools act of ontario in a rural school election when ratepayers of dunbarton public school voted to elect walter lynde local store keeper as trustee to fill the vacancy on the board caused by the resigna tion of norman littletord it was the largest school meeting ever held in dunbarton mr lynde defeated two other candidates frank perks painter and decorator and stanley robinson mechanic the vote was lynde 10 perks 33 and robinson 11 up until last nights election all voting had to be either a standing or verbal vote horace brown presi dent of the south pickering rate payers assocation pointed out that it was only right that dunbarton should use this vote as conditions of voting had first been brought to the attention of the legislature by the spra through the royal com mission on education and the amendment to the rural act thus made possible it was protested by several rate payers that the act had not been sufficiently amended and that the standing vote still required should be eliminated mr brown concurr ed in this the standing vote is not by the con gregation and without any high pressure appeal none was neces sary the sum of 1533 was sub scribed for the building the sixtyodd members of the first baptist church who now meet in the iof
