request were read by the recipients during this evenings program a spring jingle dedicated to my friend aprl 1910 ive lived on the farm for twentyfive years ive tasted of joys and shed some tears of the work ive taken a womans share with a womans will to do and to dare ive milked the cows and fed the chickens with a spirit willing but flesh that sickens i washed the dishes and scrubbed the floors and darned the stockings and painted the doors ive peeled the potatoes and bathed the baby and baked the pies and stirred the gravy alade hundreds of cookies and mixed the cakes fried pounds and pounds of pork and steaks and mended the clothes and sewed on buttons concocted the puddings and roasted the capons and answered the phone and talked to the neighbors laughed at their jokes and helped in their labors ive fried and ive baked ive boiled washed and mended but now at long last all my farm life is ended now im throwing away that old fryingpan and the old scrubbrush and the big tin can that held all the cookies ill need them no more no more will 1 bake or scrub on the floor for im going to town to take me some ease to sit in a chair and rest my sore knees yes for sure and for certain im leaving the farm with the pigs and the chickens and the old smelly barn yes im going to town to take a long rest ive liiot it all out and concluded its best but after im rested i wonder if then my heart wont revert to this dear farm again i wonder if maybe id just like to go back to the pigs and the chickens and see that big rack on the wagon piled high with sweet hay and pick some blue violets the middle of may or stroll out the lane a calm evening in june where neighbors meet neighbors neath the light of the moon but he who made me and the farm and the town he knows and he cares and he wont let me down so ill hope and ill trust look outward not in ill keep my hands busy and thus avoid sin and ofttimes im sure ill visit the farm and my neighbors and friends een that nice smelly barn thursday night is foto nite offers 200 145 the meeting was presided over thursday evening by worthy mis tress a the lodge
