annual parliament held recently in toron to donald is a son of mr and mrs s king of newmarket where he attends school and is a member of trinity united church boys parliament is held annually under the auspices of the ontario boys work board this work board is in charge of church- centred boys groups throughout ontario this year ninety elected boys from sixteen to twentyone years of age came to parliament representing the boys of ontario our purpose was to work on a christian basis for the boys of the province many people have expressed the opinion that boys parliament is only a sham this is certainly not the case in our sessions this year held in the legislative chambers of queens park i believe we did credit to ourselves as a parliament each boy lias his choice of belong ing to either the government or opposition parties the premier and his own selected cabinet pre sent the legislation in the house for debate the purpose of the opposi tion party of which i was a mem ber is to give constructive criticism to the proposed legislation so that it will be as perfect as possible when passed the speaker elected from the government party was robert lederman of haliburton it is strictly a boys parliament adults have nothing to do with out- sessions or with the legislation our parliamentary procedure is very similar to that of our federal and provincial governments during the morning we were met and interviewed by the premier bob king of toronto leader of the opposition doug iapp of ottawa and the secretary of the ontario boys work board wilbur howard that afternoon in our first chancellor brown welcomed us to toronto and vic toria university the retiring premier george hobson spoke to us one evening we heard addresses on the christian ministry as a vocation and on the canadian- japanese situation wilbur howard spoke to us several times on boys work during the morning and early afternoon we had caucuses leader ship training periods and we were divided up into groups of six under a cabinet minister to discuss the legislation before it went before the house after the saturday afternoon session we were taken by street car to riverdale presbyterian church for our silver jubilee ban quet members of all twentyfive parliaments were present for this enjoyable reunion our final destination was high continued on back page to our policyholders as a member of the
