earle bales of north york and fred lundy former warden for a term of live years council adopted the resolution of reeve maedonald new toronto asking the wartime prices and trade board to amend the freezing order on real estate as it affects the veteran who has bought a home for his family the new tor onto representative stressed the fact that this order was causing a distinct hardship on the man just back in civics who was trying to get possession of a house caught in the order of the board council on thursday finally after nearly an hours debate passed a report brought on council of last year asking the finance committee to provide for the expenditure of some 1s0000 to city hospitals members were told the plans of council would call for a similar expenditure to these hospitals for the next live years welleslv hospi tal will get 100000 of the money while the toronto hospital for sick children will receive 50000 15000 will be paid to the toronto east general hospital and to st josephs hospital however each year it will be necessary to pass a similar resolution before these pay ments can be made as council can only deal with matters from year to year and not commit a succeed ing body council also approved a resolution of reeve mitchell of north york which called for implementation of a national health plan similar to the unem ployment insurance measure after hearing a resume of the years work conducted by north york memorial boys and girls camp council sent on to the finance com mittee a request of the camp board for a grant to meet the expenses of the camp capt the rev h cotton stated that he had found the best way to overcome juvenile delinquency was to provide other means of occupation for the young folks the work afforded in our camp is along the lines of crafts and to provide better citizens for the country he remarked on friday the members heard a very strong address from a repre sentative from the national insti tute for the blind following which the councillors referred to the fin ance committee a resolution asking that committee consider an applica tion for a grant for that institute the members of council were each furnished with a very informative report of the years work by the friends of the blind council also adopted the resolu tion of the representative from reeve w e maedonald this resolution called on the federal minister to appoint additional judges to the supreme court of ontario the sponsor pointed out that there was a very severe crowd ing of the toronto jail with a re sult higher cost of the administra tion of justice to the taxpayers of the county many of these prison ers will be judged and either found guilty or acquited why cant this be done sooner than it now appears possible asked the member reeve maedonald pointed out that there were 640 uncontest ed divorce actions now before the courts with the present judges on the bench it is a serious matter to the county he stated so mr and mrs reader we
