of the carefully planned and sound labour policy laid down by john bracken national leader of the progressive conservative party the war veteran and canadas debt of honor positively no charity to the disabled instead a rate of pay which will permit of a decent standard of living to the returned man able to work nothing short of fulltime employment at a rate of pay which will permit of a decent standard of living john bracken states definitely no man or woman who has worn the kings uniform and who is able to work must be permitted to go without an opportunity of a job if existing enterprise cannot do this the state must and will adequate income for those ill or injured whettier on or off duty no onus of proof on veteran as to causes after accepted for duty proper housing for war veterans and their dependants loans at a low rate of interest for war veterans desir ous of establishing war veterans board with a war veteran as chairman and war veteran as his parliamentary assistant- this is a part of the firm policy for war veterans as laid down by john bracken national leader of the progres sive conservative party remember john bracken has three sons in the service one in the army one in the navy and one in the air force equality for the farmer prevention of post war collapse of farm income definite floor prices to be established fair share of income improved market methods equality of livingstandards proper and easier farm credits s extension of farm research better transportation betweeri farms and supply centres vocational training for farm youth better opportunities for changes of employment for farm youth preservation of family farm better roads and improved rural living equal representation on all national farm boards this is part of the soundest and most complete farm policy ever presented in canada all by john bracken national leader of the progressive conservative party they are based on sound and careful planning there it is a f uli and comprehensive program freedom from want freedom from fear preservation of opportunity and individual freedom and social secruity- withoutregimentation this program is canadas for the asking your vote for earl toole in north york gives effect to these policies it will be appreciated that all this works to the benefit of the small business man storekeeper etc to men and women in every position to industry as a whole to the church andin fact to every man woman and child inthe dominion of canada because these policies under john bracken spell security prosperity and freedom to assure this sound and modern program vote earl toole june 11th published by the north york progressive conservative association two canadian soldiers awarded vc new laurels have been added to canadas battle fame by sergt aubrey cosens- latch- ford ont and major fred a tilston toronto ont who have been awarded the victoria cross for bravery above photo shows the humble home of sergt cosens who took com mand of four survivors when his platoon suffered heavy casualties and his commander was killed during an attack on enemy strongpoints he placed them in a position to give him covering fire while he ran across open ground to take the one remaining tank where he took up an exposed place and directed a successful attack major tilston led his men in a hochwald area- breakthrough despite wounds to win his award both actions occurred on the western front sw awisrwsfti sergt aubrey cosens he died with a snipers bullet j v through his head j fmajprfredatniston recoyeringin british hospitals after both legs amputated relief from taxes is discussed there is considerable curiosity in ottawa about the likely relief for taxpayers as a result of the end of the european war and this is stressed now duo to the fact that it has been raised in the political campaign however it can be re ported that when parliament met during its last brief closing season it did not have the time for the presentation of the annual budget so that the taxpayers of canada may know their verdict since only supply was provided by passing estimates for the fiscal year 1944- 1915 with the total of war and mutual aid expenditures plus loans and advances chargeable to war appropriation reaching the sum of 4652378000 compared with a total of actual expenditures for the pre vious twelve months of 4678929- 000 or a decrease of merely 26551 000 in other words whatever taxa tion relief or changes resulting from the end of the european war would be possible could not je known since the budget alone pro vides the ways and means- of the governments intentions to collect from the taxpayers and no- budget could be presented before the disso lution of parliament on april 17 1915 nevertheless at the time that these estimates of expenditures for canada during fiscal year 10441945 were calculated it was stated in ottawa that the general principle was followed that our direct and indirect war expenditures would keep up during the next five months at approximately the rate at which they had been running during the last five or six months when the war against germany was at its height- of intensity as suming that there would be no change in major policies and no fundamental changes in conditions consequently when the next annual budget is given in ottawa after the coming general election on june 11 it may reflect itself in taxation changes on account o the end of the european war and a cioser approach to a peacetime scale i at least to some marked extent a report in ottawa has disclosed what similar act might not be established in canada in the near future in view of the loud com plaints along parliament hill that canadas members of the house of commons do not get adequate com pensation in the 4000 sessional indemnity paid each year and sub ject to taxation john grierson government film commissioner revealed in ottawa that the work of the national film board has been expanded to such an extent that no less than 300 films a year are now being produced here be ing second only to the united that an orderincouncil has been states army in the number of short published by which modification has been made of the ban on politi cal activities of members of can adas armed services to permit such persons to engage in such activities during their absence oh leave pend ing retirement with this order modifying a regulation which bann ed personnel of the canadian armed services from taking any part in political activities unless as candi dates for election in our nations capital there are numerous tips- in this nations capital that a properly limited and selected immigration policy may be forthcoming before long sincerely backed by a desire to increase the number of unskilled labor in this country and to fill up a lot of empty spaces in the immed iate postwar period or as soon as conditions will warrant when the house of- representatives in washington voted each
