to mr and mrs belgian farmers come under knife of nazis in belgian as in other occupied countries the farmer has come under the knife of the nazis says the commissioner for belgian in formation on this continent a survey of agricultural produc tion resulted in a set minimum of farm produce for every belgian farmer to enforce these orders an army of otherwise unemployables was appointed by the germans to keep tab on all agricultural pro duction despite these precautions it began to be apparent that bel gian pigs seemed to have an unfort unate tendency to die suddenly or disappear to stop this the nazis ordered that pigs should be slaug htered only under surveillance and to keep an even closer check every pig was given an identification card cattle too came in for attention a census was taken so that the dis tribution of cattle could be equa lized as the germans put it farmers with a large herd of cattle would be forced to hand over greater numbers of cows than those who had only a few when 9000 farmers of one of the belgian pro vinces refused to comply with the regulations their animals were con fiscated the population of the average agricultural town in belgium today has its food rationers its rural guards its collectors of farm pro duce its cattle controllers its pig inspectors its veterinarians not to mention the political spies and in formers instead of being the rural community the farmer is bullied and insulted and stolen from till its a miracle that he can produce anything at all one hundred and six persons gave blood donations at the mark- ham clinic last thursday of which 63 were men and 43 women it had been hoped that this clinic would have rounded out 1000 donations since it was organized but it fell some short making a total of 945 the men were responsible for 664 of these donations and the women 281 there will not be another clinic until early in june and in the meantime if you would help a good cause submit your name to m e watts
