his aged mother who died at the home of her son mr harmon jones of the ninth line she lived in this com munity a number of years ago and will be remembered as a woman of high christian character mr and mrs sam barkey and glenn have returned from british columbia and are visiting friends and relatives here we are glad to see sam look ing as well after his very serious ill ness in the west and wish him a complete and speedy recovery one of the older residents of ring- wood mrs johnson was laid to rest in the dicksons hill cemetery on monday afternoon funeral service was conducted by the rev mrbrown assisted by the rev mr morten and dr thos mitchell the stafford trio from stouffville sang a selection bob schell was home from port credit on sunday mr and mrs berbert wideman and family had sunday dinner with mr and mrs roy moyer mr and mrs ward hallman have been visiting in rochester this week mrs anthony hoover and miss r moyer spent last wednesday in tor- oronto mrs redshaw and family have left the farm and have taken up resid ence in mrs s abells house the halloween party afforded en tertainment for the school children here on friday night the members of the simeon hoover family spent an enjoyable evening together on monday at mr and mrs clarence mcdowells home on the 7th line a number were present at the house warming in the mt joy mennonite parsonage last friday evening in honor of rev and mrs s s shantz who have commenced their pastoral work here this woek mr shantz is attending the miic general conference which is conven ing in kitchener ringwood the sympathy of the community goes out to the relatives of the late abner baker who was buried at baker hill cemetery on sunday mrs mary nighswander of stouff ville is staying with miss friscilla pipher for the winter required several stitches to close the wound green river mr wm booth has left the stouff ville hospital and is with his daugh ter mrs murray in toronto mrs wm mcleod of coglan bc is with her father j b wilson and family miss claire forsyth of uxbridge paid a short visit at her brothers eugenes home on saturday mis w t loree has been under the doctors care at the home of her daughter in toronto mrs wm gray has not been very well lately to these and others who have been ill we wish a speedy re covery miss r hutchings entertained a friend at lunch on wednesday frank williams observed his 21st birthday on october 31 frank has been overseas since april 1942 and is with the 5th armed regt 3th princess louise hussars a new brunswick tank regt many happy returns frank one of the most popular young ladies in this district miss christina milne recently became the lovely bride of sidney beare of hillside last friday evening a shower in their honor was held by the commun ity at grays hall many and lovely weie the gifts along with everyones best wishes for a happy future the happy couple responded suitably mrs f turner entertained the ladies aid on wednesday of last week mrs mingay ot markham gave a splendid paper on the word for roll call and an enjoyable solo accompanied byjtfiss reesor who also sang in her inimitable manner miss r hutchings gave a fine reading dainty refreshments brought a pleas ant and profitable afternoon to a de lightful close the word chosen for november meeting is cheer it has been the good fortune for only a few churches to reach the advanced age of one hundred years we aie proud to bring before youf notice the fact that green river bap tist observed its centennary on sun day nov 7th rev dr stewart of hamilton will be the speaker draper rjr 1 locust hill baptist were occasionally held at green river as early as the later thirties the vardons turn ers and other new brunswick fami lies which settled in this neighbor hood were sociation held its regular meeting on wednesday evening last at the home of mrs k a grant balsam ave toronto and a goodly number of ladies made the trip to spend a very enjoyable evening the business period was under the direction of the president mrs h forrester mrs a miller gave a talk on-thanksgiv- ing and an address was given by miss hurst of the neighborhood workers association musical selec tions were given by several toronto ladies including mrs flumstead and miss haliday if you- see any ot the men folk walking around next w with thtir whiskers long and their hair hang ing like the locksof sampson there may be a good excuse for the evident neglect of their tonsorial make up the call of the northern wilds has taken hold of not only bob snow ball but of thebpposition shearer red gamble nee roxy marshall of richmond hill a son on monday oct is on saturday- evening a group of young people were entertained in the home of mr and mrs chas hoover of unionville the evening was spent in games and contests and a very pleasant time was enjoyed by all the many friends of mr leslie grove sr will be glad to hear that he is again able to be back to work after several weeks of forced idleness caused by an accident in which mr grove lost part of one finger on his left hand next sunday morning afternoon and evening anniversary services will be held at the mbc church everyone will be welcomed and we would like to see a fullhouse on this our twelfth anniversary visitors are asked to provide their own lunch but hot drinks will be provided in formation concerning speakers and singers
