suddenly for many years in the ministry rev thomas laidlaw retired unit ed church minister 72 died sud denly early sunday morning at his home 55 ravina crescent toronto he preached sunday march 7 in st lukes united church where he bad iheen supplying for the past year mr laidlaw apparently made a good recovery from the llu and seem ed quite himself again but on satur day night he sat listening to the radio when he commenced a violent coughing which continued as he went to ibed at four oclock sunday morning he died with shocking suddenness mr laidlaw was born in peel county and received his education at brampton high school and the university of toronto he later graduated in theology from victoria college and was ordained a minister in the methodist church among the charges served were churches at epsom thornloe heathcote stayner owen sound and stouffville mr laidlaw retired from stouffville six years ago last june and moved to toronto at that time he was a past chairman of grey county presbytery mr laidlaw had been a resident of toronto since his superanuation in 1936 surviving are his widow eliza beth williams laidlaw two sons winston overseas and gerald with the rcoc at kingston and two daughters jessie mrs john kin ross and mary laidlaw both of tor onto a large representation from the toronto east presbytery attended the funeral to mount pleasant ceme tery on tuesday afternoon the service was held atthetrull funeral home danforth ave and was conducted by rev clarke b lawsonbd chairman of the tor onto east presbytery assisted by rev c w watch 02yearold friend of the deceased rev john ferguson gave the address and rev george service said a personal word on his relationship with the late mr laid law mr laidlaw was one of christs free men living toy niece mrs edward taylor on tuesday removes one of the oldest residents of goodwood dis trict who was born there and ex cepting for a few years in toronto she spent her long life in the locality mrs fine was in lier slst year she was widely known as armanda hackney and for a good many years before marriage lived with mrs nelson wagg after giving up this employment the then armanda hack ney went to toronto where she met and married charles fine who prede ceased her they had no famliy mrs fine returned to goodwood and took up residence with her niece four years ago dropsy was the ultimate cause of her death the funeral will be held this thursday afternoon from the taylor home at garalbaldi at 230 pm to goodwood cemetery for interment calling blood donors while ii goodly number have he had shot a neighbors dog that was molesting his chickens as the offense had been committed before he deemed the only thing to do was to destroy the dog he asked for the 5 bounty but the clerk was 224373 one of the oldest men in town william crossen passed away on tuesday morning rather suddenly despite the fact he had been in delicate health for a number of years he had gone down stairs as usual the morning of his death and partook of breakfast when he suddenly collapsed and soon passed away he was in his soth year william crossen came from scot land when only a lad of eleven years as a young man he took a position on tlie well known renfrew farms andlsoon became manager there a position he held for 23 years later he operated the dr john storey farm and thence came to stouffville in 1913 thirty years ago he worked on thejdray for edward walls and later bought the ben birkett draw busi ness which he conducted until he re tired a few years ago that was the last dray business in may contest the deputy reeveship vacated by charlie hooper this means there will be room for two new men on the council of course either clark or barber could change their mind and ask for a return to the council but it is not likely either of them would take this step after having resigned with the avowed intention of contest ing a higher office with the nomination meeting on march 29 at ardour of the buyers who were there in good numbers returns to hospital mrs john ayres of claremont was removed to brierbush hospital on tuesday mrs yres had only been back home for two weeks from the section of whit church lying east of the 5th con cession and south of the ballantrae road up to tuesday night there has been reported in the handsome sum of 224375 the objective is 3700 which is very
