original stouffer family that gave town its name sang in dave stouffers choir forty years ago mrs george collard died at the family home here cm thursday morning last week following a period of declining health during which her happy disposition pre vailed until the very last mrs collard was in her 74th year the funeral on saturday to stouffville cemetery was conducted by her former pastor rev robert young assisted by dr thos mitchell and rev c e mclepd mrs collard was a daughter of the late simeon stouffer who died in 1933 she was born on the old homestead just north of town and was a descendant of the first stouffer family after whom the village was named in i903 she united in marriage with george collard druggist and to this union four children were born namely mrs alex mcleod jean mrs earl robertson erie and miss tsabol collard also mr allen col- ard all of whom survive together with the father there also survives one brother fred stouffer of ta- coma wash and two sisters mrs alton h perkins jean and mrs e dougherty nellie both resid ing in denver col mrs perkins is a member of the legal fraternity mrs collard possessed a rare contralto voice and was a member of the old david stouter choir famed for its fine singing here 40 years ago and after her marriage she was for long years in the form er presbyterian church choir as a girl mrs collard was a school teacher twice married his first wife was elizabeth calder to this union there survives four daughters and one son mrs john norton mrs cecil redman and miss luella red shaw all of claremont mrs wm wager of newburg and ira red shaw of claremont to his second marriage to mrs john walker who survives him were born three daughters and one son aldeen bernice doris and murray there are three stepchildren james walker t6ronto mrs jos brown lindsay and william walker at home with his mother thirteen grandchildren also survive four brothers and two sisters of mr redshaw living are george fred crobert and edward red shaw claremont mrs charles har dy and mrs george hardy of clare mont and uxbridge respectively the funeral on monday afternoon to uxbridge cemetery was attended by a very large concourse of sym pathizers indicating the esteem in which the deceased was held rev p g lehman conducted tho service not by any means strangers to the business life of main street but nonetheless new business owners messrs j k agnew and reg stouffer have taken over the hard ware business of fyw brath waite sinco mr brathwaite pur chased the business from the sil vester bros about fourteen years ago mr agnew had been associated with him and now become seniour partner mr stouffer is a product of our own community and a des cendant of the first stouffer family to come here in the early eighties reg has been on the hardware staff foiiuite a few years and from this setup it will be seen there is a change in name only since tho new owners were the working force for mi brathwaite who is retiring tho of discontinuing manufacture of so many articles long after other stores have found themselves out of stock the rev dr charles flint bishop of the methodist episcopal area of syracuse and former chancellor of isyracuse university is re covering from a fall suffered a tew days ago in tho court yard of the morristown metho dist church where his son rev george y flint is the pastor in some simple manner dr flint lost his balance and fell suffering a fractured vertebra he will be laid up for eight weeks as a result friends have been looking forward to his presence at the forthcoming anniversary in stouffville when tfie united church will celebrate 50 years in the present building and 100 years of methodism here dr flint as most of our read ers know is a native jf this town the 81000 estate of the late thomas william son through an order issued by the surrogate court judge j a jack son that the validity of the said will and codicils has been brought into question by edith cook of the city of toronto daughter of the late mr williamson after gifts to friends and rela tives the residue of the estate esti mated af about 40000 is left for the benefit of the poor of stouffville the interest to be distributed annu ally from the funds in trust the heirs are now called upon to defend the will and codicils other wise the court without reference to them will determine the issue township makes large purchase to keep ahead of price advance special constable for duty during closed season suggested by lake ratepayers whitchurch township council on saturday afternoon decided to complete the deal which has been pending tor months for the pur chase of 7000 feet of snow fencing at a cost of nearly l 700 when the price of posts is added council was told that the for a few days rev heapps while here will assist at the crowder-rus- nell wedding ceremony on saturday bed clothes ablaze and farm home threatened on a d morris farm the untimely death of mrs earl boyer in toronto last week as a re sult of an ailment that had kepuher in 111 health for several years was a tremendous shock to the scores of friends and relatives in the home district her father the late alex ander tate of cashel markham township died only three years ago surviving with the bereaved hus- band are five of a family the eldest being a daughter 18 and the young est child being under three years mrs tate is also mourned by four sisters and one brother namely edna and bertha montreal mrs horace cole mary of horne payne mrs sidney robins mildredvtor- onto and mr earl tate of baker hill whitchurch mrs tate was a kind and love- able mother and enjoyedj many warm friends about 20 years ago mr and mrs boyer left the local- district as a bride and groom to live- in the city mr boyer was born in stouffville his father the late jonas boyer be ing thetown electrlclaninthe days before hydro made its advent here the funeral proceeded to pine hill cemetery scarboro for inter ment and was attended by many sympathetic friends and relatives from the home district- miss elizabeth morrison who liv es with mr and mrs s w hast ings has gone to peterboro to spend a few weeks with relatives early on civic holiday evening an hour before the fire was no- the fire brigade were called to the tlced mrs morris and her aged farm of mr a d morris east or rather had left the house
