ladies on mon day when mrs harmon yake passed away had she lived until june of this year she would have reached her s5th birthday the funeral on wednesday was to stouffville cem etery service beiug conducted by rev w e morton born at altona a daughter of william feaster and his wife elsie mairs mrs yake never moved far from her birthplaceshe was married 65 years ago to harmon yake when the couple located in the eastend of stouffville and aftei 15 years moved to the farm in pickering just a few- miles from town where they have lived ever since she possessed a bright cheery disposition and was a member of altona institute since its inception over 30 years ago besides her husband there survives three sons wilmotin brock town ship oscar of- mather man and ray athome also four total number of cattle on tarms at decenvbcr 1st 1941 is estimated at 2591800 head as com pared with 2533900 head on the same date a year earlier cows for milk purposes showed an increase of 35400 head rising from 1196100 to 1231500 cows for toeef purposes declined slightly being estimated at 76000 head as against 76450 and steers one year old and over de clined from 297000 to 271100 cajves showed a similar upward trend to milk cows increasing from 556200 head at december 1st 1940 to 5ss200 at december 1st 1941 yearling heifers being raised for both milk and beef purposes rose from each is in charge of a matron and two assist ants the girls live tho life of reilly and have only to do their personal laundry and make their own beds no housework there is no housework to be done and full laundry facilities with tubs electric irons and lines are pro vived in each tmilding the girls live two in a room and ineach room there are two beds a vanity writing table and clothes closet most of the girls have added their own extras and the dens have a homey atmosphere if the girls wtsh to entertain their friends they may do so in the lounge which is in tho front of each dormi tory under supervision of the mat ron they may have friends in until 1030 1n the evening and have full use of the lounge which will accom modate about 60 persons and which is furnished with the latest design living room furniture to live at the dormitories the girls pay 700 a week with 21 meals included in this rato if a girl reports out for three consecutive meals she receives a rebate for the same service and privileges the men pap 805 a week and they have to make their own beds finest food served meals are not served at the dormi tories but there is one main cafe teria each in the girls and mens sections the main cafeteria will seat close to 700 persons while six other cafe terias throughout the plant provide similar meals for workers oh the job so they do not have to leave the lines- on which they are working for their midshift meal tons of foodstuffs dally are served from the spotless kitchens where the latest culinary equipment is used by experts under tho eye of the head chef meals are served five times dally from 630 am to 130 am the following morning just across the rjad from the caf eteria is the beauty salon all tho latest style hair dos are available and what village would be com plete without- the general store in both hc mens and womens sections of the village there is a commissary where everything but groceries can be bought if anyone wants a suit of under wear a bottle of pop a package of cigarettes a sweater or a shirt it can be purchased at the commissary the general store is faithfully repro duced with only the exception of the potbellied stove in ajax there is no need of a stove as all buildings are steam heated from a central plant there is run ning water in every building and all conveniences with a sewage disposal plant serving the village and factory the greatest problem with the building and opening of ajax was the selection of the name many were suggested but the search was for one which had not been used before in ontario with the
