stouffville village council on mon day evening decided to look into the matter of engaging a consulting engineer with the idea of preparing a plan for building an additional reser voir to bolster our domestic water supply strongly urged by dr h 13 freel moh and a v nolan from the board of health all parties were agreed that the time had arrived when some action must be taken to cope with the increasing demand and the ever lessening supply received from the presont wells it is over ten years since another council purchased additional land at the reservoir in whitchurch town ship for the pnrpose of extending the system but nothing more has been done it is expected that reeve wel- don will have contacted an engineer whom the members have in mind and some sort of agreement may be looked and gave the alarm said the young school miss who then told how shd put on her coat and rushed to the scene just at the rear of the school yard four of the youngsters were in the water when the teacher threw off her coat and started in along the uncertain bottom of muskeg the ice was two or three inches thick and she fran wan dies suddenly in markham shop john petch a lifelong resldentof markham township was stricken on thursday with a heart attack and died in a marham barber shop before medical aid could reach him mr petch was born in markham township 72 years ago he was a carpenter and for many years was employed by the speight wagon company of markham he retired several years ago because of failing health he is survived hy his widow two brothers and four sisters mr and mrs allen clossen arrived home this week from miami fla where they spent the winter months filled with flood waters which froze before getting away water was five to six feet deep tlcally broke this with over the child but to no avail scene of the tragedy is at tho rear of the school rightin the hamlet of bloomington on the 9th concession of whitchurch a gulley runs along by the school yard and this became the lads have been living with mr and mrs herb mitchell at mussel- mans lake the body was handed overto- l e oneill undertaker and it is not expected that an inquest will ho held too much credit cannot be giv en for the splendid act of heroism displayed by miss graham said dr half- she definitely saved three lives he continued school has been ordered closed for the remainder of the
