pa3b six the tribune stouffville ont thursday june 12th 1941 york and ontario counties welcome american visitors dominion government post office stouffville canada needs us tourists sinister attempts are under way in the united states to discourage travel between our two countries stories of the difficulties which americans encounter on this side of the border are being told and believed in many sections of of the us the effect upon canadas normally flourishing tourist travel particularly at a time when this country needs american dollars more than ever before was apparent last year and is again visible this year here is what douglas r oliver director of travel and publicity for the ontario government says in this connection i am hopeful that many ontario municipalities will hold homecoming weeks this year we simply have to ex plore every possible means of getting people of the united states over here this year if we are to make of our tourist industry the winthewar effort it is now crackedup to be we learned for the first time last year that we can not take this tourist business for granted in 1941 we are endeavouring to reestablish the industry if possible to something like the prewar scale it will take tremendous effort to attain this goal and only with the help of the municipalities and every person residing in them can we possibly mjake it here is a chance for everyone to do his or her part to back up the determined efforts that our governments are making the homecoming week idea has the endorsement and the active cooperation of the ontario travel bureau with the further support and assistance of the individual citizen we can really accomplish something worthwhile information for american visitors when writing to friends or relatives in the united states ontario citizens should make these points clear 1 no passports or birth certificates are required american citizens need only show some simple form of identification car license drivers permit social secur ity card or voters certificate in order to enter and leave canada 2 there is no restriction on gasoline you know this but many of your friends in the unit ed states have been told that it is rationed point out that our gallon is onefifth again as large as their own 3 pets may be brought along on bringing pets into ontario all that is needed is a certificate from an accredited
