year that is our prayer riches hardware christmas 1940 by rev t decourcy rayner should we celebrate christmas thit year in a world at war is not the christmas message of peace on earth goodwill toward men a mockery even so all nations would do well to pay heed to the yrords of the hymn o hush the noise ye men of strife and hear the angels sing then close ycur eyes awhile and endeavour to recapture the visions of childhood see once more the shepherds on the hills of bethlehem gazing in wonder at the glorylight ed heavens and listening to the angels message then follow them to the mangercradle of the baby jesus see again the magnificent camels bearing the wise men to bethlehem then recall that the lowly shepherds went to find a saviour and the wise imen jour neyed to pay homage to christ the king if christmas seems a mockery it is because modern men reject the saviour and refuse to crown christ as king and when men commit this supreme folly they always lose more than they gain that is why god is laughing at men and nations this cluistmas for verily psalm 2 de picts the days in which we live verse 4 declares he that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh the lord shall have them in derision god aughs at the utter foolishness of men who imagine they can retain all the benefits and blessings of christian civilization and reject christ god laughs at the folly of nations mak ing such a mess of governing them selves when they refuse to recognize the kingship of christ and christmas proclaims that some day the world will prosper anew under wise and beneficent rule yet have i set my king upon my holy hill of zion psalm 26 jesus the saviour is coming again to reign as king and by the grace of god i intend to be on the winning side will you mongolia mr claude cook of toronto visit ed
