the game was the tricky toe of erwin raxlin able to tip the scales in local favor whon he booted home a nice pass for the winning tally mnrkliam protests the closing of the schedule finds markham on the top rung with only one loss to their books and that to agincourt since there was appar ently no proper understanding at the beginning of the season with re gard to playoffs the southorn school claim that the now trophy being donated by reeve a e wol- don of stouffville is rightly theirs on the grounds that thoy have fin ished first in the league however the other teams dont quite see eye to eye with this argument and claim home and home playoff games the right way to declare a definite champion the final game is being played between agincourt and claremont this tuesday after which the official i heads will have to get together and make a quick derision with regard to further competition if the out- i uni0nville lady in massey hall opera mrs r 15 rao unionville was numbered among american association to pay the greater part of the expeuses of two or more canadian plowmen to go to daven port iowa and take part in the championship plowing match featured by the annual state cornhusking competition consider able gratification was expressed for several years efforts had been made to induce american plowmen to come across the line and try their skill against the canadians but to no avail so it was with considerable enthusiasm that the committee appointed set about the task of selecting suit able men for the job and they made no mistake when mr fred timbers stouffville was one of the three selected the iowa state competition consisted of champions of six teen different states one man from each state and the three canadians these being all who took part and when the five judges reached their decision the winner was fred timbers with a score of 9295 points against the illinois champions 92 it was all tractor work and the judging was different to that in the canadian matches the men not being required to finish their lands the start and straight plowing only being judged great applause was given the cannuoks and they were ask ed to do some finished work co- exhibition which they did show ing the yankees something they had never seen before a finish with only one wheel track showing mr fred timbers is a ciiampion plowman in canada hav ing won 7g first prizes and his collections of trophies is some thing to be proud of he has been a winner both with horses and tractors and now bringing home the supreme championship prize from the crack middlewest competition is another great honor added the other two young men who went on tiie trip alex black of guelph and george hostrosser malton were also in the money winning fourth and eighth places respectively mr j w carrol manager of the international plowing match and mr clark young of imilliken secretary accompanied the plowmen as representatives of the plowmens association of ontario the great interest shown by the americans and the wide spread advertising it has done for canadian agricultural suprem acy will do more toward building up a fine internationally friend ly spirit between the two countries than any other event that has taken place heretofore it is only fitting that the agricultural committee of york county council the warden and commissioners have taken steps to do honor to mr timbers and to this end a hanquet will be tendered the stouffville plowman on december 5th local boy to again fill markham defense post thieves get six ladies coats parking his car on fowl supper is on tine way out around stouffville and in many other sections of ontario one reason assigned for this is that farmers who formerly contributed fowl for the occasion free gratis while the townfolk put up the other rations and trimmings now for the most part demand pay for the birds which of course increases the ex penditures to such an extent that when this big item is deducted the sum realized is hardly in keeping with the effort put forth for the event some churches as a conse quence have decided to ask a cash contribution from each family in lieu of selling them tickets and re questing supplies for the supper three- more centres markham vill age ballantrae and vandorf drop ped from the picture this year here is what editor george james of the bowmanville states man has to say on this subject do you remember the good old days when fowl suppers were a feature each fall throughout the bountiful community t today people scan the coming events column and turn mourn fully away for these lush feasts have almost disappeared this sea son there have been but two where formerly there were a dozen or more no more effective way has ever been devised for raising funds for church endeavours and patriotic purposes once filled with goose or turkey with all their rich accompaniments topped off with pumpkin pies and rich cream there comes a feeling of expansiveness of fellowship and good cheer then even the most reluctant melt into the mood that fills the coffers and assures the budget so necessary in the life of any community the cold canvass for money falls lat and impotent as measured against these suppers which once were an institution in rural can adian life tremendous effort yet happy effort went into their preparation and our women folk did it all their compensation was the pleas ure of seeing gourment and gour mand alike respond to the boun ties thus provided and that the cause they sponsored was so boun tifully fulfilled let us all join in any way we may to bring back more of those good old days in these distressful times we have need of all the good fellowship that can be created and maintained toronto man takes bl00mingt0n bride a quiet
