twelve years but for some months he has been unable to be on the job he in tends to remove the machinery to his home where he once operated and we all hope that he may so improve in health as to be able to again do so this longestablished harness stand was operated by morley barker for many years and it would seem a shame if it was to pass from the scene despite the fact that old dobbin has been given the gobye in favor of the auto there is still a good deal of repair work and mr lehmans heavy duty machines are the only local ones for this work dancing saturday evenings jack williamson and his orchestra jack manley floor manager admission 25c per person cedar beach dance gardens we received a communcation this week from a former resi dent of stouffville district mr bruce morton who is now em ployed by the department of transport at ottawa mr mor ton states that he reads the tribune every week and so knows pretty well all that is happening around stouffville his letter in part is as follows 58 frank st ottawa ont september 4 1940 the tribune mr a v nolan stouffville ontario since april 15th the war and canadas participation in it has ncreased in tempo so that everyone can now shaie in its activities and ottawa has the appearance that she is only do ing her share all three branch es of canadas forces can be seen on the streets namely those of the army navy and airforce then too stenogra phers and clerks are here from all over the dominion to assist in the operations of the different departments naturally those departments most directly con cerned with the war have taken on the most new employees but every department is affected one would naturally expect that the new warbaby the depart ment of munitions and supply would take the most but in a re cent report i read that in the first four months of the war the post office department took on more employees than any other department i work in the library of my department and since april 17 i have been in charge of it as my superior has been absent on sickleave this library serves mostly the marine services radio and civil aviation and hardly a day goes by without someone coming for something just a bit different than the usual so it is easy to understand that a librarian has to know as much in a general way as all the branches combined under the ordinary course of events i expect we will be here in ottawa for some time yet it seems as if we will always call stouffville our home back home is the expression we use when referring to the stouffville district and we have enjoyed hearing from so many
