evening where miss lillian churly a daughter of mr and mrs james churly toronto was un ited in matrimony to mr rob armstrong son of mr and mrs robert armstrong toronto many in the community will remember that the churly fam ily a few years ago made their home at bloomington the young married couple will reside in toronto where mr armstrong has a good position as a glycerine worker new taxes may force bakers to ask 9c loaf information came out from ottawa last week warning bak eries against increasing bread prices beyond ten cents per loaf because of the new impost on processed flour this edict will not affect the local bakery and some of the other small bakeries who deliver in this town and ai selling their pro ducts for 8c per loaf it is alto gether likely these local shops will have to step bread up a cent but at that they would be be low the ten cent top toronto bread sells for ten cents in the local stores but the best local loaf is still going at 8c we learn on monday no one would blame the man selling for 8c should he increase his price one cent to take care of the added costs im posed recently which cannot be readily met from the small margin of profit enquiry at the local bakery we learn from mr stover that no decision has been reached although he admits that the margin between pro duction costs and selling price is too dangerous at 8c icecream social the when the family and friends gathered to wish him many happy returns of the day geo is one of our treasured people and has been on this same farm for 2s years the barn raising on monday on i the farm of alex gray on the 7th was a great success contractor rohert windsor had everything in great shape there was no sides tak en as is the old custom but over 100 men worked hard and raised the frame in good time a wonderful meal followed finally meet again after sixty years mrs freestone of meaford has been staying at the home of mrs james mowat for a few days mrs freestone former ly charlotte theakston and mrs mowat had not met in sixty years until last week that mirror incident reflected no insult an editor with the best of in tentions sometimes get into trouble and thats what happen ed to us our readers will re call the report in last weeks tribune concerning an expen sive mirror falling off a load of furniture and flying into a hun dred pieces when passing through stouffvillewe suggest ed that as it was regarded by some people that to break a mirror presaged seven years of bad luck the burning of a pinch of salt would drive away the ill omen well when mr f c butler of goodwood read that item he must have vowed the seven years bad luck on the writer of the script so annoyed was he i consider your imputation a pure insult said mr butler to the tribune or words to that effect while mrs butler felt equally cut up about it so that no apology on our part would abate their wrath the butlers are leaving good wood glad to be gone from a place that held no joy for them and will locate on rr 2 wes ton we regret that in smash ing a 6000 mirror it threaten ed to smash an otherwise very good friendship we held with the butlers however with this public assurance that we meant no harm and certainly no insult the thing is sort of patched up as it were mr butler has been in rather poor health and hopes in different surroundings to re gain his old health back and we all hope this will be his lot in life two new houses near mill street two additional new homes will shortly be erected in stouffville on a site directly north of storeys drug store in fact work was commenced on the project last week when an old house was demolished at the rear of these main street stores in the centre of the town and which was once occupied by william smith the old place stood on a 100 foot lot and was partly rough cast the main house having stood for a century it was originally built for one fred mertens the property today be longing to robert burnett who is making the change when completed one house will face north on duchess street an extension of mill street while the other will line up with the brick house belong ing to ed lloyd at the rear of the bank of nova scotia bud spang is the carpenter for the new houses may be cottages at musselmans some day so wrote a stouffville reporter 45 years ago in a special editorial in the village paper of that time in the office of this paper there is a small picture of musselmans lake taken 50 years ago there wasnt a build ing to be seen on the whole shore line but a few evergreen trees dotted the barren waste land in that day was not highly held however a reporter then wrote that some day there might be cottages on the shores of this little lake and he wasnt far astray for the population today at musselmans exceeds the population of the village of stouffville during the summer season accompanying the picture mentioned here an article was printed with it which reads a few miles north from stouffville lies the lovely little sheet of water a natural spring known as musselmans lake every body picnics at the lake and yet its beauty is not appreciated as it should be where can one find a prettier spot here and there the shores are banked with evergreen then the article quotes from the pen of a visitor who wrote of this lake rising nowhere and emtpy ing nowhere this picturesque body of water has a little world of its own and tell eloquently enough of the wonderful spring which feeds it a few cottages and the odd yacht are needed to make musselmans lake the paradise it could be yes a little money is needed to be spent in beautifying the place which is worthy of the quarter mile of ripples to which the shores are related all this written just 50 years ago engagement the engagement is an nounced of brown a farmer justj north of markham village is convinced that he has the finest airraid warning alarm in this country it is not likely that he will submit it to ottawa for patent rights though it all started when a plane out of malton airport develop ed a little trouble and landed on farmer browns field a bull no relation to ferdinand but still at peace with the world and ly ing tethered to a tree started over to investigate the pilot not wishing to take riy chances gunned the motor to taxi further away the bull let out a roar that could be heard a mile away and quickly snapp ed his tethering rope and made for the nearby bush still bel lowing madly neighbors from several concessions away came over to see what the noise was all about and stayed to aid mr brown in coaxing his bull
