last sunday it was neither too hot nor too cold so that folks stepp ed out with a spirit of gratitude to a gracious father for his tender mercies toward us there was a short service preceding the regular one when council lor middleton received the union jack from the chairman also the holy bible which was draped over the reading desk the orchestra played and the gathering sang several selec tions all of which were before them on printed program pro vided by the trustees the ser vice opened with the national anthem and the doxology fol lowing which rev mr holmes gave the invocation rev mr ostrum of the baptist church read the lesson and rev w kendall offered the prayer mr r w allin of toronto gave the address while special selec tions were sung by members of st clements choir and mr and mrs c stafford benediction was pronounced by rev 0 twiss of uxbridge the corres pondent acted as chairman and extended the appreciation of the officials and all others inter ested in the cemetery to those who took part in the program the orange lodge added to the occasion by decorating graves of departed members the atten dance was one of the biggest and folks congratulated their goodwood people on the steady improvement noted in the care of this gods acre congratulations our neighbourhood was shock ed by the tragic death of edwin hoover last week we offer to the beraved family our deep sympathy mr wes wideman is the first in the community to fill silo this year he could not wait for the corn to grow up so he used alfalfa instead mr anthony hoover has had some work done on his barn which gave employment to twelve men for a couple of days its worse than threshing isnt it rowenna dicksons hill contributed to the vacation bible school at stouffville by supplying two teachers misses edith hoover and margaret moyer we girls are finding the work quite fascinating we were pleased to have rev and mrs c i cullins and family of the brethren in christ church of gormley with us in our missionary meeting last wednesday mr cullins spent a term as a missionary in south africa and his address was enlightening and interesting mr and mrs lehman will con duct a series of childrens meetings at dicksons hill church every morning next week all children be tween the ages of 5 and 16 are in vited parents are urged to cooper ate by seeing that their children at tend every day possible monday evening was the date oi the annual picnic at dicksons hilt and mount joy sunday schools and was held at ratcliffs park the shower at supper time dampened the park slightly but not the klinck of vancouver is back with relatives in stouff ville after spending a few days in ottawa and peterborough mrs truman holden and granddaughter erla are spend ing the week with the formers
