to last thursday and the date on your label indicates the ex- piry date of your subscription if you are in arrears we hope that the matter will be fixed up promptly as it is not our pur pose to send the paper to anyone who does not keep their subscription paid in fact we cannot do this the tribune has achieved a position of promin ence among the weekly papers in this province and to retain our high standing a great deal more money is spent in the publica tion of the paper than many other papers expend we are starting on the last half of 1940 and those who have not called this year should bear this notice in mind messrs frank and ewart stiver mervyn watts and hugh boyd took a motor trip last week through the orange- ville district and were amazed to find that the rain in that area during the past weeks had pre vented scores of farmers from getting a crop many farms were poorly worked while in the neighborhood of mount forest as many as six barns in a mile and a quarter were burned to the ground and none of them were being replaced the quartette must have come home feeling that the local farming area was as good as anything they had seen in other parts of the province famous swing band featuring rex doyle the first fifteen ladies at the ticket office on monday tuesday and thursday will be admitted free cedar beach gardens north shore musselmans lake l if rural preachers and those in the urban places as well want to know why church services are poorly attended on sundays they should read the country correspondence in the weekly newspapers coriunents the whitby gazette and chronicle in one budget alone published in the chronicle recently there were no less than ten references to sunday visitors in and out of a certain place people who leave their communities on sunday to visit elsewhere cannot attend j their local church while visitors from urban places make sunday the hardest day for many coun try women and this is one of the reasons why they cannot at tend church the chronicle may have touched one spot all right why church attendance is falling off but there are other reasons chief of which is a growing indifference of the people toward church worship folks who really have an urge to attend service will be there visitors or no visitors fact is there is no inward urge calling many people today perhaps the service itself has nothing to it that would stir the imagination of anyone and therein lies an other reason perhaps why few er people go they demand more of the church and its minister and if they do not get it they simply say the service does not do me any good and so they too fall away truly there is more than the map of europe under going a change these days about thirty members of jubilee chapter oes held their annual picnic on the farm of mr and mrs herb mitchell at musselmans lake last fri day evening the guests were impressed with the fact that farm homes today are not what they used to be every modern convenience available to the town or city homes is to be found and the mitchells have missed none of them it seems bath hydro and other mechan ical appliances in the home while out at the barns the cattle help themselves to fresh water from the drinking troughs at any time of day or night dur ing the summer the mitchells accommodate over 20 guests from toronto who come at one time to enjoy the country sur roundings for their holiday period growers of early potatoes locally were finding ready sale for them last week you love to get a basket of new potatoes at this season when they have an
