he never rallied and died in a few hours mr taylor was 74 years ot age last imay and had spent 40 years of his life around lemonville he married sarah pipher who prede ceased him in 1929 an adopted son bert living on the neighorn farm provided a home for his father but they were planning on moving back to the taylor locality at athletone quebec shortly deceased was a carpenter by trade besides that they have made up and knitted the material already purchased from moneys on hand and have exhausted the supply and it has now been found necessary by the executive to borrow 20000 to purchase other necessary materials in order to keep the knitting and sewing workers going it is pointed cut by the executive that donations for the said purpose will be gladly accepted to carry on the work until funds are obtained in the september appeal part of which can be used for this work the treasurer wishes to acknowledge the following donations since the last publication thereof mrs hutchison in the army service corps and was ordered to report wednesday this week mr swift did not know whether he would be nllowed time to wind up his affairs rfter going down on wednesday or not but this was the expectation they honored the dead at dickson hill gathering the annual decoration day ser- ice last sunday at dicksons hill cas largely attended in remein- irance of those who are buried in he close to that concession markham second church is a name given be cause this was the second church of that denomination to he organized in the township and hearing this in mind the congregation voted to re tain this name for this very good reason howeverparties coming from the city frequently are bewildered and only recently a group of people coming out made enquiry when they reached markham village and wore directed over to the second concession and finally arrived very late and somewhat confused out siders will probably continue to re fer to the second church as the 6th line church to by rev p g lehman their many friends extend to them their best wishes for many years of happiness together huckster at richmond hill 50 years o after 30 days ot continuous cloudy weather the sun shone brightly all day monday to the lik ing of holiday makers and especially the lions club of stouffville who had gone to considerable expense to provide a holiday program of sports at memorial park plus a big even ing concert that is yearly becoming an outstanding event despite the fact farmers were behind with hay making folks were worrying about the war and numerous other ex cuses there was a crowd of over 600 people at the park for the open- ing baseball events while many more were present at six oclock for the football games and then 700 people passed through the doors in to the arena at s oclock for the fin al program of the day in mens softball unionville won first playing their final game against musselmans lake stouffville was a contender in this but failed to be a winner in the girls softball stouff ville defeated unionville in a popu lar game and won the prize with out further competition indicating that there was a shortage of girls teams mrs ormsby hornsby the former blanche slack was on the mound for the local girls who while not playing ot late mustered up a good team claremont and toronto ulsters played football at six oclock ending in a tie and big excitement in fact the crowd milled around as though there was a prize fight on and were sorry to learn the rubber was not to be broken these teams promise to meet again shortly football is still very popular and drew hundreds of farmers to see the game who had worked in the hay fields all day the evening concert was hardly up to the standard of other years due to a variety of circumstances the popular reva sheevers could not come and she was the star artist last year reva is absent on an important assignment that could not be broken then another member of the cast was called to the army while still a third artist only a few- nights ago got so drenched in the rain on an outside program that she fell ill and so the mcleods were at wits end to secure fillins however the public must have en joyed the performance as scarcely a person left the arena during the program of two hours or more the lions club hope to net around 100 with which to carry on their child welfare work and are grate ful for the splendid support given them by townspeople and outsiders alike folks had a day of enjoyment for which in these days of strain they are the better while at the same time they have done a service for democrac few pupils write on entrance exams fourteen pupils wrote on the en trance examination at stouffville centre last thursday and friday and sixteen others wrote at lemonville principal c e watson presided at the latter place while the local classes were under the eye of prin cipal l c murphy of the high school staff the number who write the en trance since there is a chance to get through on term work is so small that some of these centres could he discontinued thirty pupils could easily he accommodated in most any school which is the total of these two centres this year the funeral of mrs isaac j walder to heise hill cemetery on friday afternoon completed the last act in a life that had been lived in an interesting way for s2 years for over 50 years the late mrs walder and her husband who died a number of years ago did a huck stering business at richmond hill and it was a hard task with remun eration small mrs walder before her marriage was matilda ann shirk daughter of pioneer parents to richmond hill district mr and mrs adam shirk to her marriage were horn four children of whom two survive the aged mother being mrs fred banks on the sth concession of markham and a son lnverne walder at red- ridge ontario imrs walder died at the brier- hush in stouffville following a long illness the remains were taken to the home of her daughter mrs banks from which place the funer al took place russel and henry captains at raising nearly 175 men gathored for the barn raising last week on the farm of harvey burkholder on no 7 highway when the seven bents were rushed up in record time with no serious accidents or incidents to report russel grove and henry miller were the two captains of which the grove workers got their side up first and were able to rush to the fine supper prepared by the ladies just a little ahead of the miller group it is expected that a similar event will be held shortly when the frame will he raised on the joe gould farm right across from lliirkholders and which building was flattened by the same storm that demolished tho rturkholdcr superstructure
