of mr malcom conner who was laid to rest in church hill cemetery on wednesday miss hazel pegg employed at dr s s balls home was taken to toronto general hospital last friday morning we are glad to say she is some what improved bloomingrton mrs w h jones attended the wedding of her niece miss pegg at kinsale on saturday the misses pat and gloria over of toronto were callers at o h tranmers on sunday mr and mrs m lemon of belleville were weekend vistors at his brothers home mr and mrs e morganson of goodwood were at miss hills on sunday miss c m hill of merlin 3nt visited at mr o h tran- ners this week dr and mrs matheson of toronto spent sunday at e a storrys the bloomington tin band nustered all their tin instru- nents and serenaded mr and tfrs w tranmer on friday right a large number of the com- nunity and friends gathered at he tranmer home on monday vening and presented mr and irs w tramer with a miscell- neous shower the chirivari boys gave the gift of a mantle clock a band of willing workers met at the church on thursday and proved the old adage true many hands make light work as a result the interior of the building is spotless and the lawns are in fine condition the pot luck dinner was superexcel lent the class of which mrs b morton has been a faithful teacher met at the home of mr and mrs s h cockburn ring wood on friday nfght and pre sented mrs morton with an electric lamp lunch was served and the social time was enjoy ed by all we regret very much losing such valuable helpers in our church and community mr morton is at ottawa and mrs morton is soon going to join be postponed on account of wet weather several of the young farmers of this community attended the york county livestock judging competition held at richmond hill on wednesday of last week none however were listed among the prize winners for judging the ypu on sunday even ing was quite well attended the program was in charge of the missionary convener bonnie robertson boyd mount gave the topic on the subject honour thy father there were also special musical numbers the junior farmers club has accepted the kind invitation of the stouffville club to meet with them on tuesday june 18 in ratcliff s hall as these interclub gatherings are always very interesting it is hoped the local club will turn out in full force on friday evening june 14 the wms will hold their reg ular monthly meeting in the church the meeting is of spec ial interest to all members both present and past as it marks their 43rd anniversary of the society the special speaker will be rev mr irwin a former pastor at the square but now stationed at lemonville every one is cordially invited to attend on friday evening last the pupils of the square school held their annual athome and ex hibition of work which was very fine indeed owing to conflicting entertainments the crowd was not as large as it otherwise would have been although a good number was present the debate between victoria square and buttonville pupils on the sub ject resolved that travelling is more interesting and of great er educational value than read ing was won by the square who had the negative side on friday night of last week the local junior farmers and institute were hosts to one of the toronto kiwanis clubs at a garden party and dance at the home of mr dalton rumney owing to wet weather some of the games that had been arrang ed for had to be withdrawn but nevertheless things kept hum ming throughout the late after noon and on into the night the unionville j f club presented the play brothers in arms the kiwanis boys band was in attendance and played several selections dancing in the barn concluded the program the junor farmers and kiwanis club are both very grateful to mr rumney for permitting the russell john thomas beare son of mr and mrs john beare armadale rev b e newnham officiated assisted by rev j t hicks the church was decorated with spring flowers mrs aj woods played the wedding music and miss margaret woods sang the bride given in marriage by her father wore a gown of net and lace with fingertip veil caught to the head with orange blos soms she carried roses the bride was attended by miss thelma bowser of mount den nis and mrs roy soper tor onto the former in turquoise blue flowered organdie with rose velvet trimming and the latter in rose flowered organdie with blue trimming myrna heisey toronto and ruth bowser mount dennis were flower girls in rose and blue organdie gordon clayton was best man and the ushers were ernest c j bowser austin baker lloyd coxworth and ray coxworth the reception followed at the home of the brides parents the brides mother wearing dusky rose sheer with corsage of blue flowers and the grooms mother in powder blue sheer with cor sage of rose flowers the couple left for quebec city and eastern points the bride travelling in royal blue coat with white accessories they will reside in armadale mrs mahon 83last of family of ten mrs mahon of bloomington aged 82 whose sister just died in south buxton township near chatham is the last sur viving member of a family of ten children whose parents came to bloomington from the old land sixtyseven years ago and first took up a home right in the hamlet in the spot now occupied by richard english mrs mahon was the youngest child and her sister- who just died was mrs isabella hill the merlin standard reports her death as follows the death occurred at her home south buxton on mon day night may 27th of mrs isabella hill widow of the late john hill at the advanced age of 86 years 2 county carthnesshire scot land in 1854 daughter of the late mr and mrs peter simpson and came to canada in 1873 with her parents settling north of toronto where she lived for a few years in 1874 she and the late john hill of ballantrae township of whitchurch were married and in 1880 they mov ed to south buxton where she has since resided mr hill car ried on a blacksmithing busi ness for several years and in 1888 he purchased the farm on which his shop was located where he farmed until his death in april 1913 the funeral services were conducted from the family re sidence at 2 pm on wednesday interment merlin cemetery brothers meet after 38 years dicksons hill correspondent over one hundred descen- dents of the late christian barkey and catherine strickler enjoyed a reunion at the home of to september when she expects to return to her field of labour only one mrs john blair of the original family was present at the reunion the other sur viving member mr abram barkey has been in poor
