at same time last saturday two fires were raging at the same time in whitchurch town ship last saturday when a couple of homes miles apart were razed to the ground a total loss at 1245 the frame dwelling occupied by mr and mrs stan hall at corner of 6th concession and vandorf road was believed to be started from a spark on the roof mi hall was not at home and be fore the neighbors could ren der assistance everything was a total loss even the furniture the property is owned by wm pattenden one hour prior to this a fire broke out on the premises of charles h rose cedar valley pine orchard station believed to have caught from a running grass fire from a point where they were boiling- sap the ballantrae fire engine with its 300 gallons of water was quick ly on the scene but after its contents were emptied no more water was available the men turnd their attention to saving the goods and the milk house close by most of the furniture was removed from the dwelling but the house burned to the ground the dwelling was a frame and metal building so quick did the first fire gain headway that no fire equipment was sent to the scene and even if a chemical outfit had arrived it is not thought that it could have ren dered any service jtis beyond the recollection of any one to recall when two homes have gone down by fire in this manner at the same time graduates from the toronto retired fruit and vegetable wholesaler was buried at the wideman cemetery in markham last fri day afternoon following his death on wednesday at his home in toronto in his 63rd year death came unexpectedly born on the farm west of stouffville a son of prominent farmers in markham and whit church mr clark early forsook the farm to seek a mercantile career going to toronto when only a young car while he was repairing a punctured tire the accident occurred about 2 oclock in the morning just half a- mile north of ringwood on the 8th of whitchurch mr and mrs davies were returning from toronto while the other car was travelling south ihf j jhn bruce alleged to have been the driver of the other m which struck mr davies was arrested on a charge of reckless driving by constable robert windsor and later re leased on 1000 bail his com panion cliff arsenault was not held davies had to stop to repair his left front tire when the other car came from the north he ceased work and stood be side his own car while the other vehicle passed it is said the door handle of the passing car struck him a violent blow he suffered a fracture of both bones below the right knee puncture wounds requiring stitches in the arm and several bruises first aid was rendered at the brierbush hospital where he remained for a day or more and then was taken to toronto claremont wins high at the many years and about 20 years ago moved to a farm in the aurora district mr cooney died five years ago in toronto and a family of six daughters and three sons survive mrs j henessey of vandorf mrs don
