hundredweight weekly said mr pearsall the shipments run 65 per cent wilt shire sides and 35 per cent other cuts he said the first duty of the bacon board he stated is to ensure a full supply of bacon we should also ensure that the pro ducer gets a full share of the benefits there is going to be a sub stantial increase in hog raising mr pearsall predicted adding that we hope to take some of the mystery out of this hog business and place it somewhat in the same position as wheat the western wheat grower knows pretty well what hes goingto get for his wheat the british food ministry in sisted on a flat price because that was the only basis upon which it could operate canada has a grand opportun ity to capture the british bacon market and retain it according to kenneth morrison of the first ontario cooperative pack ers barrie he scid it is neces sary for hog producers and packers to overcome british pre judice against canadian bacon a hangover from the last war when quality didnt mean any thing to shippers it was not only canadian bacon that ruined our reputa tion in the last war he said there was an american bacon too to the englishman it was all american he didnt dis tinguish between it find soil on 664 farms lackin in che of the 664 farms in york county many of which are in markham and whitchurch townships that submitted their soil samples last fall for examination showed that 80 per cent of them are lacking in phosphate and 50 per cent are short of potash this informa tion was placed before the york county council last week by the agricultural committee and it was realized that a service had been done the farmer with just the right elements in the soil maximum crops may be produced farmers may be firt- ilizing with expensive fertilizer which his soil does not
