attention to breeding on several occasions he shipped single carloads of 5000 value and once a single purchaser bought from him to the amount of 7500 in a single- twocar shipment of cattle at one time there were in the home herd as many as one hundred and thirty purebred shorthorns in 1891 1892 and 1893 the j champion bulls at the toronto industrial exhibition were from mr johnstons farm and the shorthorn cows holding the championship for the years 1893 and 1894 were bred here also besides shorthorns mr john ston gave considerable attention to importation of clydesdale horses and purebred sheep and took an active part in the work of the various organizations for the advancement of the stock industry in canada being for three terms honored with the presidency of the dominion shorthorn breeders associa tion in 1910 mr johnston re tried from farming and made his home in the village of brooklin john miller came out from scotland in 1853 he brought with him for his uncle george miller of markham a number of leister sheep and pure bred toronto and was sold in febru ary 1909 for 2500 in the fat stock sale of february 1910 they had the two highest priced males and the two highest pric
