in chesley we understand the report has come to us of the serious plight of reuben meyer wellknown mount joy truckdriver who it is said is suffering partial paralysis of both his legs the condition is believed to have been brought on by the operating of a truck mr meyer drives a milk truck for mr 0 b- heisey of mark ham and has done so over ten years similar cases due to truckdriving have been known before now it is said railway sectionmen may find it a bit difficult to keep the weeds down this summer on one section of the line between stouffville and markham where the morning train one day last week spread a heavy load of manure over the rightofway belonging to oliver shank of the 8th concession mr shank was driving the load back through his farm when the sleighs became caught in the tracks which cross his land at one point seeing the approach ing train was apparently un aware of the danger he quickly drew the bolt and released the team the big engine struck the sleigh load amidships and pol luted the atmoshphere and everything else accordingly for some distance along the track the railway are reported to be making amends for the loss of both sleigh and contents still more facts came to light each week on the results of our small adv column on page eight rev- a g lehman of mark ham advertised a fur coat for sale and found a buyer east of stouffville circulation noisemakers that are to be given away the literary society is positive that a gala time can be assured to all that attend friends will be sorry to hear of the serious illness of mrs ira rusnell mrs rusnell has been confined to her bed now for nearly two weeks with quinsy proof of the big circulation of the tribune was given last week when ben- gayman of markham township received twentytwo replies to his small advertisment for pigs twenty- two calls for 35c certainly go to show that the tribune is the biggest meeting place for both buyer and seller try it and see see householders who are favor ed with a hydrant close to their place of residence would do the fire brigade and others a great favor by removing the snow from off the top of the hydrants so that they may be readily seen it is not necessary to dig them out entirely as snow around them helps keep the frost out- however they should be sufficiently cleared of snow to be seen in case of emergency 0 o o d o losaoi n c the stouffville christmas market committee met on fri day evening and wound up their accounts for the year secretary harold quibell pre sented a financial statement showing receipts for the fair to be 25575 and disbursements 22390 leaving a small balance to carry over for another year the whole undertaking was viewed as a splendid success something that should be con tinued another year the farm when a similar report was circulated about himself the thing was greatly exagger ated mrs mcmullen who is approaching her 81st birthday is quite well and the family are at a loss to know how the yarn got started friends were natur ally pleased to learn that mrs mcmullen is quite well and happy although the equivalent space of four and a half class rooms were added to the stouffville school building last summer the amount of coal consumed thus far is no more than any other winter the explanation is that the heating system at the school was completely overhauled and brought uptodate results show that a lot of coal was be ing wasted under the antiquat ed system discarded last year in a normal year a 50 ton car of coal is required for heating at the school and occasionally this is not quite sufficient the fact that the weather has been mild er than the average winter is something that has been in fav or of preserving the coal pile this year but allowing for this fact the new system has been a great coal saver over the old one that trouble never comes single handed but must be handed out in threes seems to have come true once again al though the trouble in this in stance is spread among a num ber of people and one auctioneer no less than three public auc tion sales advertised through the tribune last week were cancelled from one cause or other- beginning with the estate sale of the late elias lehman which was cancelled because of changing arrangements among the parties concerned the cancellations continued to the wood sale in whitchurch and then to another furniture sale in stouffville george paradine anounced a wood sale of stand ing timber but the roads were blocked with snow and the sale was cancelled to be held on saturday february 11 then last friday afternoon a sale of mrs frank millers furniture was to be held in town mrs miller became ill and was sent to the brierbush so the sale was cancelled making the third with drawal in 10 days quite a num ber of people had gathered for the miller sale and for a con siderable time no one knew what to expect there was no one present to make an official statement on the matter big value ivory last week when he apparently slipped on the ice in front of peter lehmans house and suffered a severe blow on the head- mr rusnell tells us that he was hurrying out of the lehman home to move his car
