14th arrived today and as the visit of my son and his wife to my relatives in altona was reported it seems need less to say that i was intensely inter ested the later part of the final paragraph reporting his visit is per fectly true and in this connection i would like to trespess on your time to elaborate a little it was in the year 1884 that i left my home village of altona and since that tjme through the kind ness ot members of my family i have received the paper every week and i wish to assure you i consider jt the finest christmas present 1 receive as unlike most christmas presents it is not forgotten before january is past even the modern invention ot radjo with its almost hourly news broadcasts have failed to dim the pleasure i experience in reading your weekly paper though absent from altona for so many years i still feel i am in touch with all local happenings in closing i would just like to take the opportunity to compliment you upon your very interesting articles and whiih to keep the main street pavement clean wittons of mud falling off truck wheels plus rotted leaves and other accumulation of one sort or other the street doesnt look like a hundred thousand dollar roadway it has been suggested to the tribune that the council should put on more help at this time of year and save the extra cost in months when so much attention to the pavement is not required we pass on the suggestion as something ot this sort might be considered to good advant age there is no doubt but that extra work is required both in the spring and fall seasons if this show completed and the cement floor finished all in readi ness for the brick work this week when completed it will supply a longfelt want in the public service namely the use of a vault for tho municipal records safe from tiro hazard and toilet rooms for men and women which will be equipped by public subscription soon after the necessary rooms are provided we have heard a number of people ex press the approval ot the municipal authorities tor stopping into this matter at the time they did when funds were available without in creased taxation to add something to the village that is so sorely need ed at the regular meeting of the stouffville senior institute held at the home ot imrs wm watson an unusually interesting paper the feature of the program was read by miss sadie stewart giving an acc ount ot a sightseeing bus tour taken last summer by miss mae mowder conducted by the ontario dept of agriculture and lincoln county tour association transportation meals etc were taken care of in all i one fare so that the passengers had i nothing to do but enjoy themselves i leaving st catherines at 8 oclock on a delightful sunday morning aug 8 the travellers occupying several large busses started along no 8 highway for eome 300miles through oxford county on to det roit and into michigan then north to the sault visiting fords at dear born and other wonderful places and scenes ot historic interest value enroute in the north superior dis trict they were treated to trout din ners blue berry pie and such nat ive dishes as are got on the ground there and served so fresh at tho soo they reached espanola the party later headed tor ottawa where the mint and archives were visited and the dominion experimental farms the route home was made through brockvlllo where they saw the
