lioni duies as usual retiring under apparent normal conditions the evening before her death about 5 oclock thursday morning mr wagg arose to commence the day when he was horrified to find tluu his avife lay beside him stilled in death hav ing passed peacefully in her sleep she had been dead several hours a daughter of mr david staple- ton mrs wagg was known to her intimate friends as veola fourteen years ago she was employed at porters storo and remained there for three years and was naturally well known in town and district eleven years ago she was married to vincent wagg and to them three children were born margaret aged 9 reta 8 and dorothy 7 all of whom are left with the father and to whom the deepest sympathy is felt by everybody mrs wagg was a wonderful mother every moment of ner time was busy devoted to her homo on monday afternoon prior to her death she was in town mak ing purchases despite her great capacity to work and her love of duty she was known ito have a bad heart condition but it never forced her aside death was due to this cause the funeral on saturday after noon was one of the mosl largely attended that old timers could re call being held in stouffville in years the cortege proceeded from the bereaved home to the stouffville christian church where the build ing had long been packed with people ero the arrival of the mourn ers and the crowd that kept coming was unable to gain admittance to the church rev e morton conducted the service being assisted by mr arthur greer who recently came to be pastor of this church mr greer read the scripture and sang a solo in his address rev mr morion pointed to the sad event over which all had gathered as a sure reminder of tho brevity and uncertainty of life and the need to be ever ready for the great call pair bearers were cecil wagg leo wagg foster and austin wagg wibert snovball and howard fockler gook leaving jor syracuse earl cook lentonvilles gift to organized ball who has spent most of his diamond career with the leafs will not be back with the tor onto club this spring the word came out of cincinnati that the husky righthander has been ordered to syracuse where he will perform with the chiefs next season cookies departure was not unexpected he hasnt been exactly what he hoped to be in the several summers that he has toiled in tor onto toggery and a change of scenery may work wonders in his cose ill any event that is the view entertained by daniel howley who believes that cook has the makings of a groat pitcher his inability to win eonsstently for toronto dan is inclined to attribute to the fact that ihe was overly anxious cooks best season was in 1935 when he won eleven games off and on he has been four years with the leafs the last two summers on loan from the cincinnati club by whom he was recalled last fall earl expects to leave any day now on short notice for the south whitchurch revives wire fence bonusing constables will now investigate all relief claims council decidps at february meeting councillor unseated leonard st george of cache bay 30 miles west of north bay was recently declared unseated be cause having accepted the towns relief vouchers at his store he had a financial claim against the muni cipality judge jas plouffe of nipissing district handed down tho decision believed first of its kind in ontario action to unseat the 89yearold mayor elected in early january was instituted by john e jessup de feated candidate the judgment said in part i further find that it was the inten tion of the legislature that merch ants having plaims for relief could not qualify as mayors reeves or councillors because it is possible that being members of a municipal body their personal interests might conflict with their public duties no costs were allowed jessup who also claimed in his aotion that st georges business tax for 1936 amounting to 1230 had not been paid prior to the nomination meet ing judge plouffe decided on the evidence submitted that the busi ness tax was paid in time guest landed in the ho coming to stouffville last week from his home at uphill near orillia mr george suter slipped on i a piece of ice to the milk situation before any discussion arose morgan baker mjla spoke a few words on behalf of the legislature mr baker stated that he could well understand the situation the farm ers are in at the present time and promise to do all within iliii power to help better the situation he also explained to the meeting thai the greatest detriment to the milk shipper has been the high price of feeds and the low priceof pork and beef with the result that those in these markets have switched over to dairying and have flooded the milk market another guest speaker was mr tandy president of the tandy advertising agency mr tandy clearly explained the advantages of advertising by quoting the increase of sales in other industries he also stated the most prominent place for an increase in consumption would be that of lunch rooms that an patronized by college students and oflice employees interesting information given by erlo kitchen and jos darlington members of the toronto executive and toy mr coleman auditor for the association there may be some readers inter ested to know of a hew agreement which was recently brought about by the association in regards to those dairies that were buying milk on a quota system and were also j continuing tho hold back system this new agreement says any dairies buying on a quota system and also using tho ihold back system will not ihe permitted to tako tho 15 per cent at low price ay other dairies hut must pay full price for tho entire quota a few have been having difficulty with their dairies over delayed milk cheques buying agreements etc it would bo adviseable for those to get in touch with some one on the local oxocutlvo and they will do their very best to assist you or better still to come to one of tho local executive meetings and explain their diluent ties the township of whitchurch has returned ito the system to wire fence bonusing which they abandoned just at the beginning of the depression both reeve c e toole and council lor herman kidd were members of the council at the time the bonus system was done away with but when it was revived today the reso lution passed with little or no opposition daniel hall appeared before the council at the regular meeting on saturday and said that he had hop ed to be backed up by a goodly-num- ber of other farmers to urge that wire fence bonus be resumed mr hall claimed that where laud is properly cleaned the wire fence was an aid to winter roads councillor kidd introduced the resolution to restore the bonus at 30c per rod but the condition of payment will be more guarded than heretofore when it was merely necessary to erect a wire fence and collect the bonus it is provided by tlie new resolution that the council pay a bonus of 30 cents per rod for standard wire fencing ereot- ed in tlie township on any road where the council deems such a fence would bo a benefit to the road aill applications tor such bonus must ibo made to the council before the proposed fence is erected a request from the bell tele phone co to have the township pass a bylaw regulating the placing changing and removal of poles for their lines was rejected certain features of the bylaw were objectionable to theouncil and it was deciiied to inwe the reeve and road superintendent act as a comi miltee in connection with any of these matters arisjngvbetjveen the municipality arid tbeconrpany after february 15 relief in the township will bo administered through the constables constable williamson will have charge of the area from the 5th concession to yonge street and constable wind sor from the 5th concession to the east townline they will oachbe paid 75 per year for itheir services with no allowance for travelling expenses clerk john crawford will be required under the new arrange ment to do the bookkeeping and will be paid 25 for his services it is believed that a closer check on relief can be evolved through the new arrangement as it was found impossible for the clerk to do all the investigating in addition to his expensive otherj irosppnsbilities in connection with tho township it was reported that several out side dealers are selling groceries in the township without taking out the necessary license costing 2500 per annum council instructed the clerk to advise the constables that a strict checkup be made that the same treatment may be meted out to all i think it is unfair that while some outside merchants pay this license fee others are getting away with it said reeve toole relief for the mouth ot january and which included a few hang over accounts from december total ed 48937 a decided drop from a year ago reported clerk crawford council intends to make a drastic cut in the years road program while a year ago over 17000 was expended on roads the requisition was made out for 1937 at 13000 and this figure will be forwarded to the road department as per their request for an estimate it was hacked up by a bylaw which set out that construction would con sume 3000 of the total culverts and bridges 1000 maintenance and repairs s000 and the superintend ent salary 1000 a total of 13000 if this expenditure can be followed there is likely to be a favorable drop in the tax rate the bank of montreal aurora branch solicited the privilege of accepting taxes on behalf of the township as a convenience to the banks customers leonard dion wilcox lake pro tested paying for garbage collection he being a yearly tenant he claim ed he fed all his garbage and buried tin cans under the circumstances council though the protest had some ground and tabled
