farmer auctioneer one has only to study the terms on auction sale bills to realize bow- hard the ttmeworn long term credit system has been hit by the depres sion and recent legislative enact ments not so many years ago nine out of every ten auction sales were long term credit sales if the buyer was not prepared to pay cash for his purchases he could secure any where from six to twelve months credit on approved joint notes to day these auction sales are nearly all cash sales the salebills and sale advertisements state very explicitly that the terms are cash or strictly cash and in many cases add the proviso that no article is to be removed from the premises until settled for it means that vendors have at long last realized that giving credit is a risky procedure that usually causes trouble and perhaps friction in collecting and is almost certain to entail more or less serious losses through inability to make one hundred per cent collection former pickering fami ber the death of mrs brillinger and leonard wore saturday evening guests at mr and mrs herb hiseys a motion lo reduce the size of the york county council by elimin ating the deputy reeves received the support of only six votes when it was introduced in county council last week in moving his resolution the deputy reeve declared you have just increased your indemnity but dont put yourself in a position where you will make monkeys of yourselves lets be sensible if this council intends to exist it must cut down its size we are be coming a legislature instead of a council he continued we are discussing a lot of things that are not our business deputy reeve fred gardiner forest hill stated that it was too late in the session to give such a resolution the discussion it war ranted but i am in agreement with the move he added why ten men from forest hill standing on their heads could do more ef ficient business than fortynine members of county council such modesty is beyond under standing in my friend joked c c downey swansea but to be seri ous it takes a year for a deputy reeve to understand the workings of a county council mr vale was honest when he remarked on the first day that the county council was all greek to him deputy reeve fred gardiner re ferred to the remarks of the pre sent warden when he told the council last november that he was going to expedite its business if he was elected warden i am sorry to say that this move has elongated the session instead of shortening it he stated classified notices for sale durham cow due to freshen e nigi phone 610 mongolia miss jean pugh spent the
