delighted with the holiday which gave him an opportunity to make a side trip of 1500 miles from the home of his daughter at midnapore near calgary up into the peace river country with his son fred a report of which mr itatcliff so graphically described in these columns some weeks ago in a letter which he sent the tribune in all mr ilateliff covered some 0500 miles from the time ho left stouff ville until his return and thats no small journey for a man over seventy years of agemixed opinion says mr ratcliff is encountered all through alberta on the aberhart social credit scheme those that are getting from under their load of debt are delighted and those who are stuck are not so enthusiastic mr ratcliff showed us the first alberta scrip money we have seen and it is possibly the first to reach stouflville the paper content and size of the bill and its general appearance closely resembles any ordinary canadian dollar there is this difference the back of the bill provides for the weekly stamp to be affixed but the hill has every appearance of any legal tender rev h m manning who died at brampton last week preached in the methodist church at uxbridge back in 1895 on a four year term during rhis time he visited stouffville on many occasions as district chairman stouffville being part of the ux bridge district at that time the late mr manning was one of the first ministers of the methodist church to preach near edmonton over half a century ago the new cnr timetable effective last week changes the time of going and coming of all passenger trains through stouff ville the morning mail is not due here now until 1005 which is 14 minutes later than heretofore while the evening train from toronto does not arrive before 611 also 14 minutes later than heretofore the down train to to see the baseball game be tween sunderland and wingham at wingham last saturday that team won from the brock boys by a 21 score in ten innings indicating a very close contest for the semifinals of the oba sunderland won the penant last year and have only two or three teams to meet before reach ing the top in the championship race of 1930 scores of our reaaes will join with us in extending good wishes and congratulatons to mr and mrs r j daley of edmonton on reach ing their 61st wedding anniversary as recorded in the edmonton journ al and reprinted on the front page of this issue mr daley was a promi nent business man of stouffville and did much to develop the community from a mere country corners to a humming village no other man contributed quite so much to the de velopment of the village as did r j as he was so familiarly call ed ever to this day he is actively engaged in business as a rancher of considerable importance and oper ator of an estate of some 3000 acres in one of the best mixed farming districts in alberta monarch paint per quart fall paint sale mrs isaac stouffer left town last week enroute to her home near greenshields alta mrs stouffer came east three months ago owing to the illness of her father john r hoover east of altona and who subsequently passed away mr and mrs isaac stouffer farm a quarter section and follow the lines of mix ed farming fairly well since mrs stoufiers return to the west her mother has gone to live with mrs john watson on the 10th concession thus two sisters who were raised near goodwood under one roof have returned to the same condition of living after having their own homes separately for about 50 years the village is said to be overrun with punch boards according to one authority who ouglit to know strangers are calling on the school children inducing them to sell these games of chance but our advice is that the whole thing should be stopped and that parents forbid their children to accept any more of these boards to sell such schemes for raising money may have some place among members of certain societies who are trying to raise money for charitable purposes or some other public need but it is not proper for private gain it is also questionable from a legal point of view and teachers have requested this paper to call the attention of parent or guardian to the matter womens institutes offer ah plans are well under way for the financial campaign and first annual tag day to be held on october 17th in aid of the childrens aid society of york county there has been a splendid re sponse from the
