people all over canada took tho course ot study sponsered by tho federation of temperance the childrens aid society ot york county proposes to hold its membership drive and first annual tag day on october 17 the society was officially in corporated under its new charter on january 16th 1935 its purposes and objects are to protect children from cruelty and neglect on the part of the parents guardians or others to care tor and control neg lected children to improve the home life of children to secure fostor homes for children who have no homes or proper homes of their own and to discharge the functions of a childrens aid society under the childrens protection act since the reorganization of the society efforts have been made to understand the personality of the children under care to keep in touch with them in order that they may be helped to become happy useful welladjusted individuals foster homes have a large part to play in the work of the society in their choice have been considered the opportunities they offer for the i physical mental and spiritual de velopment of the children involved efforts have been made to safeguard the health of the children through physical and dental examinations and corrective treatment when necessary thought is given also to educational and recreational oppor tunities for the children for whom the society is responsible 452 children are under the care and supervision of the society in foster homes if they are to be guid ed and helped to become citizens of whom york county may justifiably be proud the society needs the interest and support of every citizen of york county the homes of 335 children are also under supervision because of reported neglect the society is trying to protect these children toy improving their home conditions 121 cases under the unmarried parents act also require much time in the effort to secure settlement from the father to the child and to help the mother plan for her baby and herself the childrens aid society of york county is the only countywide social organization working ex clusively for the welfare of the children of york county they are our children and s such surely they are worthy of our support the county council has dealt generous ly with the society in reference to its budget there are however many expenses which are not chargeable to the county these must be met out of private dona- lions the warden of the county of york is wholeheartedly behind this effort to raise funds and has appeal ed to the various municipalities for their cooperation in the societys drive for membership buy a tag or better still become a member of the society at the membership fee of 100 in the interest of the 787 children who need the services the society has to offer tho board of
