stellar performance until the fifth when ho weakened and was replaced by bruce lehman who held the winners in hand until the end bradd struck out eight in his five innings sutton combined airtight fielding and a few well placed hitsi to win the game by the score of 105 heron did the twirling for i sutton until tho seventh when he was replaced by doc leroy stouff ville proved very weak at tho bat something unusual for them when playing in sutton while several bad errors allowed tho opposition to mount up a considerable score be fore the locals could get going a fine turn out from stouffville gavo tho boys good rooting support col w p mulock whose annual picnic on saturday at woodbridgo will attract many visitors from the local district ng my holiday the boat trip to ft william was line but tlie cars were very warm the road dusty still having a first class coach and sleeper i fared much better than some others 1 was not altogether amidst strang ers from tlie boat i met a former resident of stouffville and another lady from toronto both travelling my way looking over the country as passing through it would make any person feel bad for those who were depending upon returns from their labors of sowing and reaping of crops that had vanished so com pletely after resting for a few days my son fred took his car and we start ed for edmonton driving about half way we find things looking much better as we proceeded north and from there ou beautiful crops of all kinds leaving edmonton we drove through to athabasca landing ou the athabasca river and there stayed for night at a beautiful hotel next day we crossed the athabasca and journeyed to leser slave lake where we were delayed for a day on account of rain and slippery roads we had to cross water by ferry scow six miles drive 2 12 miles then take another scow for about 5 miles these ferries were made necessary as the rise of the water in the lake two years ago made that portion of the highway impassable but the government pay the cost next night we had to stop near sturgeon lake when it rained again the following day we reached high prairie at noon and grand prairie at 4 oclock there we spent the day visiting friends from clare- mont district h coopers family jas mcfarlane walter mcfarlane and another mr mcfarlane took us to sexmith to a gathering of farm ers where two governments were addressed the men upon best ways of farming judging horses cattle etc next day we went with him to an old timers picnic where i feel sure there were a thousand people spent a fine afternoon in games and danced at night these people were tho finest and most robust looking i have ever met in one gathering all driving cars of the best makes some large families and all so cheer- full looking after leaving wembley we passed through claremont sex mith spirit river on to duvagen whore we crossed tho peace river by ferry then on to fairview cross ed tho blue sky hills to peace river town nestled by tho river and sur rounded by very high clay hills it is a pretty place with two hotels lawns homes and fine streets from hero we take the highway south again by way of mclellan where we stay over night there is one of the nicest towns on tho way fine stores hotels and buildings then back to htgh prairie where wo struck the homeward trail by slave lake athabasca and edmonton also slvan lake a summer resort a beautiful place bathing boating and other amusements the prairies of tho north stretch ing out farther than the eye can detect matter covered with grand crops splendid farm buildings look grand tho athabasca and peace are immenso rivers very wide and deep with a very strong current which must be crossed on the bighway by scows attached to strong steel cables but tho approaches be low high banks did not look good to me i hope this finds your family well and your town not sowarm as when i left i drove to banff this week and had a very kind reception from mr and mrs mather your truly
