4th con left blocked its all very well for the fellows to say that the longest way round is the sweetest way home but that refers to a warm summer evening with the right person for company now suppose it was one of those awful stormy nights such as we experienced last week with snowbanks high and subzero weath er tingling in your ears well that is the situation which faced one of our young men who attempted to drve home from toronto through the storm unable to make the grade on the 4th concession he went over to the sth through markham village only to find the road blocked to ringwood but nothing daunted he rambled all the way back to yonge street and attempted to enter the home precincts across the townline over the high hills and dales mid way on the journey the car stalled in a hopeless manner and our citi zen left it on the road fn disgust but just before he came into gorm- ley he remembered the water was not run off the car and ha had to re trace his steps or face a badly broken radiator later back he plodded and then to home and bed was he glad perhaps but thats not the end of the story the storm raged for a couple of days and he allowed the car to remain where he left it so far as he was concerned however constable sid barraclough ot rich mond hill got word that a car had been abandoned on the gormley townline and he had it hauled to richmond hill awaiting an owner believing it belonged to someone who had been robbed of his chariot the real owner appeared in due course and paid 3 to get his car and thus end a story which reads like a nightmare those who have occasion to travel the 4th concession from gormley north or south are wouder- vouiil why tlieir roa1 so neglected and left blocked with snow for days after other roads are opened with the snow plow the tribune has been asked to call attention to the apparent neglect of this particular piece of highway under the juris diction of the toronto york road commission councillor george leary of gorm ley said i am at a loss to know why our road a busy highway was neglected so long the townline was opened to yonge street and to stouffville but our farmers on the 4th were left behind the snowbanks i think something should be done to ensure the same treatment as is given other sections the public school south of gormley was closed because the road was not opened this paper was informed but reopened on monday morning when the trustees sent out word to reopen goodwood dress suits for farmers business for sale going cheap for quick sale boots shoes and gents furnish ings in stouffville of great britain held a conference in london recently and the sessions wound up in the manner of such af fairs by a baquet the tickets said evening dress must be worn some of the farmers did not attend because it meant they would have to buy dress suits as well a tickets this farmers organization seems to be rather a snooty affair probably largely composed of gentlemen far mers who wear good clothes all day never soil their hands and walk around giving orders to other peo ple the real farmer the oldtime farmer never owns a dress suit and would feel as if he were encased in a suit of mail if he had to wear one perhaps his son has one the young buck of today need them for dances and social events imagine the consternation caused if the farmers who attended the recent short course banquet in stouffville had appeared in dress suits or tux and what a howl would have gone out had such an order been issued still on the whole the english farm er wears better clothes than the canadian farmer does he is never seen in overalls for all that it is just his way of doing things but a dress suit is out ot the question that is asking too much of him when a farm organization reaches the stage when it demands that its members must wear evening dress tor dinner it is time to disband and form a more democratic body real estate farm for sale excellent 50- acre grain and stock
