further confirmation to the fact that the valveinhead engine is the very best kind for a lowpriced car two reasons tell why first the inherent design of this type of engine used on racing cars airplanes speedboats produces extra power second the shaping of the cylinder head forces fuel to bum evenly and completely saving you money on gas conventional engines cant do both these things at the same time engineers agree you must have a valveinhead engine to get this matchless powereconomy combination but let your own driving test furnish the proof drop in and drive a chevrolet today easy 7 start up housekeeping and operate our village store which is now vacant the store was real handy when uncle john and aunt mary called unexpectedly and you were just out of butter or soda biscuits we will sure miss the open door where we could run in and warm our feet and meet the neigh bours to say nothing of the numer ous hockeygames and wrestling matches the boys used to listen to there after all the conversations over the old counter are always very picturesque and interesting what that big golden moon didnt see on friday night would probabls be hard to explain but we know one scene he did witness this was the big party held on clarence atkinsons hills what a night the crust was hard and slippery the air keen and the moon made silver paths across the surface of the earth everyone was out on the peaks to have some fun with the toboggans jn spite of the many upsets which resulted in skinned knuckles twist ed feet and not to forget the broken toboggan everybody enjoyed them selves thoroughly although the morning hours came round well that moon was just too tempting ask province to share income tax with counties reeve w h edwards luls resolu tion lo vork council urjjes increase for ciardliouse a resolution requesting the pro vincial government to grant to counties a portion of the proposed provincial income tax acquired from county ratepayers was advocated by reeve v h edwards in york county council prior to 1931 income assessment was liable for county purposes de clared mr edwards in moving his resolution at this period how ever certain municipalities applied to the government to be exempted from income tax for county purpos es and the government after much discussion granted this request during the past two years many representatives of municipalities have felt that the principle of this legislation was wrong inasmuch as real estate already overtaxed had to bear the additional taxation now that the government has promised to levy for income assess ment it will be more efliciently ac complished and i feel this privilege of levying on income for county purposes should be returned he declared county council approved of an increase in salary for w w gard- house county treasurer from 3000 to 4000 a year a warning that unless an increase was given mr gardhouses services may he lost to the county was given by reeve w marsh mairwood of york township who declared that an outside concern had just offered the treasurer a position calling for a 3000 per year salary when mr gardhouse took oltice three years ago he was given the minimum salary of 3000 with a condition that as county finances bettered his salary would increase we all know just how efliciently he has carried out his work for three successive years he has balanced the budget and has succeeded in col lecting from municipalities their levies on time his duties this year have increased for he has now tak en over the work of three county commissions that were abolished reeve gus edwards of mimico opposed the resolution he declared a 25 per cent increase was far too great for any man in these trying times i am sick and tired of having people receive credit for tip finan cial condition of this county when the municipalities themselves cirry out most ot the work in collecting revenue he declared the dominion stores stouffville branch on city prices and advertising
