pastor of stouffville united church drew a retort from one of his purishoners right in the midst of his sermon last sunday morning which set the congrega tion on ear and they didnt miss a word of the sermon from that moment there was but one inter ruption then till was silent for the rest of the period the interruption came shortly alter the preacher launched into his subject in which he sought to place in relief the incongruous state ments set down in the old testa ment as against those in the new testament mr laidlaw launched into the subject saying that there were those who believed every word in the old testament was actually dictated by god to the saints who wrote them down i am here to say that that is utterly wrong and that it is not true he declar ed when a voice from the congre gation immediately challenged the allegation with the statement it is true the preacher declared that a citizen of our town naming him at this time had stated to him that the god of the old testament was a devil and he the preacher could see the viewpoint of that citizen he declared that the old testament did reveal a god of war a tribal god a national god as against a god of love revealed in the new testament how can we reconcile such statements as we read in the old testament as recorded in the 15th chapter of i samuel which he quoted thus now go and smite at a meeting of the official board the god of war he pictured god as a perfect radio broadcaster but we here on earth had established very poor re ceiving sets and there is even static in the beautiful palms what is needed today is a interrogated by the tribune one t man stated that it was the best ser mon he had heard mr laidlaw preach since he came to stouffville six years ago while others frowned on it as unnecessary and ill
