preacher of the day then entered upon his discourse from eph 5 and 32 and ore subject the church of tomorrow while believing in the church of today dr mitchell prophesied that the church of to morrow would be different it would have a sounder conception of the essentials would have no quarrel with science would put more emphasis on the beautiful in worship and in life would be a teaching church would give a larger place to women would have an intensified social conscience and lastly would be a community church dr mitchell thus would take us a stage nearer to the realization of the pro phetic word in revelation i saw no temple therein bruce barton said the preacher thinks the church of tomorrow will ibe more vital but in structure smaller he believes we are approaching the day when the minister will throw his messages on the walls of the homes of his parish- oners and will call his families to stimultaneous family worship in that day life will be religious and religion will be life in closing the preacher stressed the fact that each of his hearers could help to make the church of today into the church of tomorrow lr armstronghad evidently been in the act of unhitching the team of them admitted theyhad been awakened by the tremors while these two apparentlylept right through the first thought ot many persons awakened so rudely was that halloween pranks were ibeing carried to such an extent that their homes had been rocked or shaken in some manner mrs snider who lives on main street right opposite the button hardware when awakened by the quake jumped from her bed and hurried down stairs accompanying the rocking of her house was a thundering noise on the celling above her bedroom the vibration had shaken over a pile of wooden boxes it was afterwards learned and being alone mrs snider acted just like many another she sought some bodys company and rushed out ol the house and into the home of mrs irwin gray where she spent the re mainder of the night a chap on stouffer street couldnt figure what started him out of a sound sleep causing him to leap from his bed he heard sounds from the chicken pen and concluded that thieves were about stearhily ripp ing out with his gun he waited in the dark but the hens quieted down and it was witli fear that he approached the pen next morning fearing most of his birds would be missing but there was nothing wrong the poultry were jostled a bit by the quake just like their owner a professional man was driving from toronto during the time of the quake but felt nothing that is un til he reached home when his wife wanted to know what he meant by staying out so late when an earth quake was rocking their home until she was terrified mr seneca baker of whitchurch says he was awakened but sensed the rockinsr of home was an earth quake the cattle in the barn com menced to bawl and kept up a racket for some time indicating they had been disturbed and unsettled a ballantrae farmer declares that his chickens were cackjing loudly when he awakened and in the morning he found one dead under the roost lying on its back whether it was skaken from the perch or just toppled over because its time was at hand the owner would not say but it is quite possible that it fell from the perch in the dark a citizen whom we promised not to mention by name confided in us that he had been at markham halloween night assisting to clean up the remaining suds on the fin al evening of beer by the glass in a legalized parlor he jumped out of bed in a fright but was afraid to confide in his wife that the bed was shaking for he wasnt sure himself whether it really did shake or whether the markham slush was commencing to work in earnest while this was possibly the great est earth tremor ever experienced in these parts sufficient to rattle dish es upset bottles and boxes etc no reports ot plaster falling or other damage is reported in or aound stouffville lemonville bloomingtox ballantrae rev o b jeffery
