that cratefeeding of their poultry pays them big dividends there are sever al reasons for this it produces the milkfed grades which bring the highest prices the leading whole sale merchants are now buying poultry by government grades with substantial differentials between each grade the premium assured for birds which grade milkfed makes cratefeeding worth while and all poultry intended for eating pur poses should be properly finished be fore being marketed the farmer who has poultry to market would do well to remember that it is the last pound which brings the finish and increases the value of the bird by 50 or 75 cents uso registered males good breeding practice in poul try has long recognized the value of the highly prepotent male bird in building up flock production when the farmer or poultryman can raise the average production of the pullet flock from 120 eggs to 150 or 160 eggs per bird in a flook of 100 pullets the real cash value of the high quality male bird is immediate ly apparent in the whole scheme of the national poultry policy the registered cockerel alone has the proven ability best suited to in creasing pullet production thebe cockerels are bred from two direct lines of females which have laid 200 eggs or more in one of the canadian egg laying contests in addition to volume these dams have proven capacity for egg size as well and what is most important every registered cockerel has been bred from a fully matured hen they are tho cream of production bred poultry conventions in february arrangements have been com pleted by the agricultural should save their best grain for next years seeding farmers who have been growing a variety of grain with low yielding ability or one unsuited to their dis trict should plan to procure good seed grain for next year farmers using their own seed should clean and grade it thorough ly before seeding where farmers are fortunate enough to have u cleaning plant in their district they may get their grain cleaned for a nominal fee those who have not the advantage of a cleaning mill can procure good seed by using a hand grain cleaner to remove weed seeds and light kernels many farmers neglect to clean their seed because of the work entailed but clean grain is absolutely necessary in order to produce profitable crops while a good seedbed a fertile soil and good growing conditions are all necessary in order to secure high grain yields it is equally important to use well cleaned seed of a variety with inherent high yielding ability clover seed scarce burning coal or coke if so our new coal and years ago canada was sending no dressed poultry to great britain but lately there has been a sharp development in the export trade a largo supply was sent to the british christmas market last year and the year before during the past twelve months over two and a quarter million pounds of dressed poultry have been exported and an other generous supply was delivered to the british christmas market a largo supply of canadian poultry the red clover seed grown in canada this year the amount of which is es timated at only 1500000 pounds tho limited canadian production this year is largely seed of the hardy type but unfortunately the total canadian supply is only about one- third of the total normal canadian demand for one seeding red clover seed when obtainable from northern united states or the more norther ly contries of europe is acceptable as a substitute for canadian seed in times of domestic shortage in canada but because of the almost universal shortage this year ade quate seed supplies of this kind will bo difficult to obtain from any source purchasers of red clover seed for next spring may expect to find it priced considerably higher than in any recent previous years and the 00 horsepower v8 engine it has been told how the color and lustre of your automobile can be restored by the use of a properly formulated polish there are two accepted methods of polishing the one by using a combination cleaner and polish of the liquid type and the other by using a cleaner and wax while the use of the liquid polish is less work and will restore the lustre to your car in one opera tion it doesnt last long and wont prevent further weathering tho second method involves two operations and while harder work will preserve the finish for months the traffic film must first he clean ed off with a mild abrasive polish or cleaner when the finish is thoroughly dry and clean the polishing wax is applied with a ball of soft doth which has been damp ened and wrung dry the wax should be put on sparingly rub bing it into small sections not more than two or three square feet at a time then the wax is rubbed up to a bright lustre with a clean dry cloth wax like window glass has the ability to filter out the ultraviolet rays of the sun when you wax your car you apply a thin trans parent film over the entire surface which in addition to improving its appearance protects the finish from weathering it is easier also to keep the waxed surface clean as dust and dirt can be wiped off much easier if given this attention a car will retain its good looks for years and its finish will last a remarkably long time low winter fares good from de cember 16 to february 28 are be ing offered by the railways cover ing round trips to canadas ever green playground that favored
