issue is said to be the first function of this kind to be performed in- this edifice which was erected in 1903 thirty- one years ago not that this ancient ceremony is frowned on as a church affair quite the contrary as we learn from pastor cressman who intim ated to the tribune that it is his own opinion that the church build ing is quite the proper place for weddings besides the ceremony it self being sacred friends and well- wishes can better be accommodated in the church than in private homes were suggestions of mr cressman perhaps now that this young couple have started something new there may be more to follow and why not a regular epidemic round new sparton gorden e cober radio technician stouffville ont phone 7802 1 ime f or jhrverything this is the time to do that odd job wednesday of last week was perhaps the worst storm here in years it became quite dark in the middle of the afternoon and visib ility was so bad that one motorist from aurora who left for his home about 330 travelling to markham and across to yonge street failed to reach his town until seven in the evening he witnessed three acci dents to other cars on the way mr f l button kc and his son reg had an unpleasant experience hav ing been caught in the storm at jciaremont after attempting to make stouffville by the usual roads travelling west they were forced to obtain the assistance of a farmer and his son to enable them to get back to claremont about four oclock they attempted to travel south to tho highway but on- countered such a terrible blizzard they were forced to abandon their car and seek tho shelter of a farm house where they remained for the night both men were completely exhausted when they obtained shelter and could not have gone much farther on foot so pene trating and blinding was tho storm mr button lost his hat plunging through the farmers lane to reach the house and his cheeks were touched by tho frost to make matters worse in town the hydro lights failed in both the cast and west end of the village and after a desperate effort on the part of the electrician n w byer assisted by the markham linemen they had fo abandon tho effort to locate the trouble which was found next morning something had gone wrong with a transformer at r e browns corner from time to time we have made reference in this column to the need of a well organized business mens association such as once function ed in this village on more than one occasion recently the absence of such an organization meant bad management of public affairs con cerning merantile and other business for instance during christmas week the stores remain ed open every evening but the fact was never advertised and conse quently many people did not know of the longer hours accorded then result the merchant was the loser such an association as we require here would also have been able to handle the childrens christmas tree and prevent it from being such a rank failure and dire disappoint ment to the hundred or two children who gathered at the clock tower in the hope of meeting santa claus there christmas eve various of our merchants have expressed t lip i r re gret to us that the affair was not properly managed and we believe every merchant would willingly give a few cents to defray the cost the failure of the tree was purely lack of organization it is up to the mer chants to got together and form an association that will be alive to their own interests instead of the village being very quiet christmas eve at 7 oclock there might easily have been a thousand people on the street if a christmas tree and programme had been carried out properly shti fall in line for rjettsr bread wiis- fall timo is hero tho time that you should fall in line for better bread
